GNAC Men's Volleyball Athlete of the Week Report #2

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Michael Shelley, Emmanuel (So., OH)

Emmanuel outside hitter Michael Shelley averaged 5.23 kills per set this week, while swinging at a .380 clip, to help the Saints put together a 2-2 week. He had double-digit kills in all four contests, including a career-high 22 kills in a win over No. 13 nationally-ranked SUNY New Paltz on Sunday (Jan. 28). He had another 20-plus performance later in the day, putting down 21 in three-set loss to Endicott. Shelley was especially efficient in that contest, swinging at a .633 rate. Shelley also had seven aces on the week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Orlando Plagata, Regis (Gr., OH)

Graduate student Orlando Plagata averaged 2.83 digs per set this week for Regis as the Pride went 1-1. He barely missed reaching double-digit digs in both contests, collecting nine in just two sets against Dean and eight in a setback against Eastern Nazarene. Against the Bulldogs, he did not have a receive error.

SETTER OF THE WEEK

Josh Milke, Wentworth (Jr., S)

Junior setter Josh Milke averaged 9.58 assists per set in four matches for Wentworth. He eclipsed the 30-assist plateau in three contests, starting with 32 in a three-set sweep of Endicott. He followed that up with 37 helpers in a 3-1 win over No. 13 nationally-ranked SUNY New Paltz. After an 11-assist game against Baruch, returned to dish out 35 in 3-0 sweep of Nichols. In addition to his assist numbers, he also had three kills and nine digs on the week.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Andrew Matzouranis, Regis (Fr., OPP)

Freshman opposite Andrew Matzouranis opened the week, playing in just one set of Regis’ 3-0 sweep over Dean in conference play. He had three kills in that contest without an error, giving him a .429 hitting percentage. He then led the Pride offensively with 16 kills in a four-set loss to Eastern Nazarene. He was again extremely efficient, swinging at a .520 rate. He also had three blocks against the Lions. For the week he averaged 3.80 kills and 1.40 digs per set, while hitting .500.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

John Bellafronte, Elms - Collected four blocks for Elms, all assisted, in a three-set sweep of Sage.

Pedro De Jesus, Elms - Put down 16 kills to average 5.33 per set in Elms' 3-0 sweep of Sage on Saturday (Jan. 27). Made only two errors giving him a .583 hitting percentage. Also contributed three aces.

Dominic DeFerrari, Emmanuel - Averaged 9.08 assists per set over four matches for Emmanuel. Had a career-high 34 assists and 11.33 assists per set in a win over Baruch.

Mason Andrade, Wentworth - Named to the Fenway Volleyball Classic All-Tournament team, averaging 1.90 digs per set, while playing in only three matches. Collected nine pickups in a three-set sweep of Nichols.

Ryan Roller, Wentworth - Named to the Fenway Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team, averaging 2.09 kills per set and swinging .400 across four matches. Also contributed six aces.
