GNAC MEN’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
WINTHROP, Mass. – No. 3 nationally-ranked Wentworth will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Volleyball Championship Tournament after wrapping up the regular season on Saturday (April 6) with two more conference wins.
The Leopards head into the conference championship tournament with a 13-1 GNAC (28-1 overall) record and have been towards top of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national polls all year, peaking at No. 1. They dropped just five sets in conference play this year and hope that success will lead them to their third-straight conference title.
Lasell, the only team to deal the Leopards a loss this year, are hoping for another trip to conference championship after finishing as the conference runner-up the past two seasons. The Lasers will be the No. 2 seed thanks to their 12-2 GNAC (17-11 overall) record, looking to make that final leap to the top of the conference.
Both the top two seeds earn byes directly into the conference semifinals.
They will await the winners of the two GNAC Quarterfinal matches which are scheduled for Tuesday, April 9. No. 3 seed Rivier (10-4 GNAC, 17-13 overall) will host No. 6 seed Emerson (4-10 GNAC, 6-14 overall) in one quarterfinal, while No. 4 seed Emmanuel (9-5 GNAC, 16-9 overall) entertains No. 5 seed Regis (5-9 GNAC, 10-18 overall). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
The winners of the two quarterfinal matches will advance to join the top two seeds in the semifinal round on Thursday, April 11. The winner of the Emmanuel-Regis match will head to the top-seeded Leopards, while the Rivier-Emerson victor will take on the Lasers. Those matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
The two semifinal winners will compete for the conference title on Saturday, April 13 with the winner being crowned 2024 GNAC Men’s Volleyball Champion and earning the league’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship.
