2023-24 GNAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Award Winners Announced

WINTHROP, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced its 2023-24 Men’s Indoor Track & Field major award winners on Thursday afternoon.

The winners were recognized for their performance throughout the entire indoor season, including the 2024 GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The honorees were selected by a vote conducted by the league’s five indoor track & field head coaches.

Ryan Graham’s success as a distance runner for Saint Joseph’s (Maine) was recognized as he was named Track Athlete of the Year, while Regis’ Justin Thuotte took home the Field Athlete of the Year honor for his prowess in the field events. Monks first-year Haytham Ramadan took home the Rookie of the Year award, while Monks coaching staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year. Regis was the recipient of the Institutional Sportsmanship award.

In addition to this year’s award winners, the medalists in each event at the 2024 GNAC Championships were recognized as All-Conference performers and one student-athlete from each team was selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

 

TRACK ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Ryan Graham, Saint Joseph's (Maine)

Graham was one of the premiere distance runners in the GNAC this year, ranking near the top of the league in a number of races. He had an excellent performance at the GNAC Championships winning both the 3K and 5K races. He won both races comfortably, clocking in at 9:50.67 in the 3K, more than five seconds faster than his closest competitor, and finishing the 5K in 16:19.02, eight seconds ahead of second place. Graham was also second in the mile by just a second with a time of 4:42.59. He earned 30.5 points at the conference championship as he was also part of the first place distance medley relay.

FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Justin Thuotte, Regis

Thuotte did a little bit of everything for Regis, eventually qualifying for the New England Championship as a heptathlon participant. Jumps were his forte as he led the conference with top marks in the pole vault (3.80m, 12’5.5”), long jump (6.60m, 21’8”), and the triple jump 12.86m (42’2.25”). He participated in all those events at the GNAC Championships, winning both horizontal jumps and finishing second in the pole vault. He took the gold medal in the long jump with a distance of 6.44m (21’1.5”) and won the triple jump with a mark of 12.86m (42’2.25”). In the pole vault, he cleared the cleared 3.10m (10’2”). Thuotte also earned points in the high jump at the GNAC Championships, clearing 1.75m (5’8.75”). He was named Field Athlete of the Week twice (weeks ending Dec.3 and Jan. 28).

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Haytham Ramadan, Saint Joseph's (Maine)

Ramadan was the best mid-distance runner this year, posting the league’s best times in the 800m (1:56.42), 1000m (2:34.72), and the mile (4:33.43). He really showed off that ability at the GNAC Championships as he took first in all three events he competed in. He was the winner of the 800 with a time of 1:58.27 and the mile, clocking in at 4:41.59. Ramadan also served as the anchor leg for the GNAC Champion distance medley relay, which finished in 11:22.96. He was a New England Championship qualifier in the 800.
