GNAC Men’s Soccer Champion JWU Takes On Rochester in NCAA First Round

INDIANAPOLIS – Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer Champion Johnson & Wales travels to Tufts to take on Rochester in the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The Wildcats along with 41 other teams earned their berth into this year's national bracket by winning their conference's automatic qualifier. Those 41 teams, plus 23 at-large selections composed the entire 64-team field that was announced on Monday afternoon during the NCAA.com Selection Show.

JWU played to a 14-2-4 overall (10-1-3 GNAC) record this year, earning the No. 2 seed in the GNAC Tournament. It did not concede a goal in the conference tournament, besting No. 7 seed New England College, No. 3 seed University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), and No. 5 seed Norwich en route the league title.

Rochester, the Wildcats first round opponent was the recipient of 23 at-large selections into this year's field. It comes into the tournament with a 9-2-5 overall (3-2-2 UAA) record.

The first round match between the Wildcats and Yellowjackets will take place at No. 20 Tufts (12-3-3 overall, 6-2-2 NESCAC), as one of the sixteen sites to host first and second round matches. The Jumbos, which are currently ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA DIII National Poll, were also an at-large selection and will play Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Champion Bridgewater State (12-2-5 overall, 6-0-1 MASCAC) in their opening round matchup.

The winners of the sixteen first round sites will advance to one of four sectional sites, which will host games on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 17-18 or Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 18-19. The sectional winners will then move on to Kerr Stadium in Salem, Va. for the semifinals and final, which are scheduled to take place on Friday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 3.
