Falcons to play in Fredericksburg, VA in DIII Men's Basketball "Sweet 16"

The #13 Albertus Magnus men's basketball team will head down to Fredericksburg, Va. this weekend to play in the NCAA Tournament Third Round at the University of Mary Washington.  The Falcons will take on ninth-ranked Williams College on Friday, March 14 at 5:30 p.m.

Mary Washington, who is ranked 17th nationally, will host Virginia Wesleyan at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night, following the Albertus/Williams match-up.  The winners of those two contests will meet on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in the "Elite Eight."

Tickets will be available by Tuesday, and online sales are encouraged. Reserved seating for the all-session ticket (both games on Friday) is $8, general admission is $7, and senior/student/children (age 6+) is $4 each. Saturday will require a separate ticket. Those who purchase tickets online will able to pick up their tickets on Friday at the Will Call window. Those purchasing tickets in person on Friday must pay with cash.

The Falcons, who are 28-2 on the year after earning the program's first-ever NCAA Second round contest, will face Williams for the first time in program history on Friday.  Williams enters the contest 25-4 on the year after defeating Gordon College 81-63 in the second round on Saturday.

Williams has made six Final Four appearances with 2011 being the program's most recent.  This season marks the program's 14th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance, while the Ephs have won one National Title, in 2003.

The Falcons used two victories over top-15 ranked opponents over the weekend to advance to their first-ever NCAA Third Round.  This season marked the program's fourth NCAA Tournament appearance, and the third-straight.

Mary Washington picked up a dominating 77-49 win over DeSales University on Saturday in Ashland, Va.  The Eagles are now 24-5 on the year and advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history as well.

Virginia Wesleyan enters the weekend 24-6 on the year and will face the Eagles for the second time this season. VWC and UMW met earlier this season in Fredericksburg as the Eagles won the double-overtime contest 95-87.  The Marlins defeated No. 10 Wesley 79-74 to advance to the Sweet 16 for the fourth-straight year.
