GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 6

( FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 3 - 9 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jillian Miele, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Gr., F - Wilmington, Mass.) - Miele continued her torrid scoring pace last week, scoring five goals and added a pair of assists to help JWU remain unbeaten at 10-0 on the season (6-0 GNAC). Miele picked up a hat trick in a road win at Albertus Magnus on Wednesday, then racked up six more points (2-2-6) against Rivier on Homecoming on Saturday. Miele is tied for second in the GNAC in scoring with 39 points.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Serena Montague, Albertus Magnus (Jr., GK - Englishtown, N.J.) - Against two of the top teams in the GNAC last week, Montague tallied 59 saves (29.5 per game) and posted an .819 save percentage versus Johnson & Wales and Saint Joseph's of Maine. The junior keeper first made 24 stops against the league-leading Wildcats on Wednesday, before turning in one of the best goalie performances of the season, making 35 saves against SJC on Saturday. Her 35 stops were both a new single-game program record for AMC and the most saves by a D-III goalie in a game this season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Ariana Komonaj, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., M - Thomaston, Conn.) - Komonaj helped power the Blue Jays to a 1-1 GNAC week with five points over a pair of contests. The freshman opened the week by scoring her first career goal in a 2-1 setback to Elms at home on Tuesday evening. She followed that up by netting her second goal of the week and her career, while also adding an assist to help propel the Blue Jays to a 4-0 triumph over Regis on Friday night.

HONOR ROLL

Alyssa Slocum, Colby-Sawyer (So, D - Windsor, Vt.) - Slocum made an immediate impact in her first two games playing the forward position, scoring three goals in two GNAC conference wins. After scoring once in a 6-0 win over Anna Maria, the sophomore scored twice – including the game-winner – in an impressive 4-3 road victory over Simmons on Saturday.

Lily Stark, Lasell (Junior, F) - Stark had six goals for 12 points, with four coming in a 6-0 shutout over Dean on the road. 

Molly McCluskey, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, M - Orono, Maine) - McCluskey broke the Monks' single-game record – which stood for 13 years – with five assists in a 6-0 win over Albertus Magnus on Saturday as part of a 1-2 week, including 1-1 in GNAC play. 

Anna Tedeschi, Simmons (Sophomore, F - Hanover, Mass.) - Tedeschi helped the Sharks to.a 1-1 week, registered four goals and an assist for nine points. Midway through the week, she recorded the game-winner in the 24th minute of a 3-0 win over Saint Joseph's (Maine) then added an assist on the Sharks second goal against the Monks before tallying her second goal of the game in the third quarter. Tedeschi closed out the week registering a pair of goals including the game's first goal against Colby-Sawyer on Saturday.
