GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 2

(FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 3-9)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Alexandra Belaire, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (So., M - Greene, Maine)

Belaire broke out in a big way with five points in a 5-0 win at Anna Maria College on Saturday. The sophomore midfielder played a hand in four of the Monks' five goals with a goal and three assists. 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Hope Winkin, Regis (Mass.) (So., GK - Winslow, Maine)

Winkin stopped 21 of 24 shots for an impressive .875 save percentage in a 1-2 week. played a significant role in Regis's first victory of 2018 against conference foe Rivier, stopping all 14 shots she faced in the 1-0 win. Earlier in the week, she started at Framingham State and made six saves in the first half before allowing two goals with one save in a tough overtime loss at Becker. Before Saturday's game against Riv, Winkin had made 13 total saves in her career and the win was Regis's first shutout since Oct. 3, 2017. Winkin's 14 saves were the most by a Pride goalie in a single game since Raegan Heck made 25 saves against Fitchburg State on Oct. 1, 2015. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Emily Plummer, Simmons (Fr., M/B - San Diego, Calif.)

In a 1-1 week overall, the first-year tallied a pair of goals on as many shots. The midfielder scored the first two goals of her career, including the game-winner in a 3-1 victory over Westfield State University, on Thursday.


WEEK 2 HONOR ROLL

Anne Melanson, Anna Maria (Jr., M/F - Grafton, Mass.) - Melanson scored two goals on four shots and assisted on another goal in a season opening victory over NEC. 

Nikki Streete, Anna Maria (Fr., G - San Jose, Calif.) - Streete stopped 18 of 22 shots (.818) on the week, including 16-of-20 in a 5-0 loss to Saint Joseph's (Maine). 

Cailin Flannery, Lasell (Sr., F - Medford, N.J.) - Tallied two goals and one assist in a 1-1 week for the Lasers. She scored two goals, including the game-winner late in the secod half, in Lasell's GNAC win over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday. She assisted on Lasell's only goal in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime loss to Keene State.

Makena Leazer, Lasell (Fr., GK - Nashua, N.H.) - Posted a 1-1 record with a 1.98 goals against average and a .810 save percentage in a 1-1 week for the Lasers. She made seven saves in a 2-1 overtime loss to Keene State on Wednesday, and made 10 saves in a 4-2 victory over Colby-Sawyer in Saturday's GNAC opener. 

Aineen Callahan, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., F - Diamond Point, N.Y.) - Callahan had two goals and two assists for six points in a 1-2 week, including a three-point performance in a 3-2 road setback against Framingham State.
