GNAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Report #4

PLAYER/ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Tyler Carlstrom, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., INF)

Freshman Tyler Carlstrom had a great week at the plate for the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) was the Blue Jays went 1-0-1 for the week. Carlstrom hit safely, scored, and drove in at least one run in both of USJ's games this week. He started with a 3-for-5 showing, including a triple, in a 10-10 tie with Hartford on Tuesday (March 19). He drove in three runs in that game and also drew a walk. He followed that up with a 1-for-2 performance at the plate in a 5-2 GNAC win over Dean. In addition to his performance at the plate, he also scored once, drove in a run, drew a walk, and stole a base against the Bulldogs. For the week, he batted .571/.667/.857 with two runs scored and four runs batted in.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Aidan Vining, Johnson & Wales (So., P)

Sophomore pitcher Aidan Vining allowed just one run in 10 innings of work for Johnson & Wales this week. He opened the week on Tuesday (March 19), striking out the side in a perfect inning of work. He came back just three days later to throw nine innings of one-run ball against Elms. He allowed seven hits, walked one, and struck out eight as he put his team in a spot to win the GNAC contest in extra innings.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Henry Rondon, Elms - Tossed six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and five walks to earn a 6-0 win over Anna Maria. Also struck out five batters.

Riley Hasson, Johnson & Wales - Collected a pair of three-hit games, highlighted by a two-double, four-RBI performance against Coast Guard. Also picked up three hits at UMass Boston giving him a .429/.438/.571 slash line for the week. Scored one run and drove in five across three games for the week.

Geffen Franus, Norwich - Produced a .455/.417/.636 slash line and had solid run production in Norwich's three games this week. Scored twice and drove in four across the three contests. Also had two doubles and a stolen base.

Chase Swain, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Pitched eight innings to earn a 5-2 victory. Allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk, while striking out 14.
