GNAC Baseball Report: Week 2

( FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 2 - 8 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Colby Greenhalgh, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., C - Plainfield, Conn.)

Picked up a hit in all five games (2-3 record) for a .524 batting average (11-21), .643 OBP and .762 slugging percentage for a stellar 1.405 OPS. He had three-hit performance in three different games, including a 3-for-4 showing with four runs and two RBI vs. Eastern Nazarene. He also homered in the season opener versus St. Elizabeth.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Michael Muscarella, Suffolk (So., P - Melrose, Mass.)

The sophomore posted a 1.93 ERA across 9.1 innings with seven strikeouts and just one walk. He struck out two over 3.1 scoreless innings of relief on the road against No. 14 UMass Boston before allowing two earned runs on eight hits and striking out five in 6.0 innings of a 7-5 win over Dickinson. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Zachary White, Rivier (Fr, P/INF - Long Beach, Calif.)

White was a stud for the Rivier baseball team as they went 2-4 over the opening week of the season. The rookie first-baseman batted .385 while knocking in five RBi and registering an OBP of .636 over the week. White went 5-for-13 with two walks and seven HBP. He went 1-for-1 with four runs scored in the team's 17-3 win over Finlandia before wrapping up his week with a 3-for-3 performance in game two against Saint John's University (Minn.). He also handled all 33 chances defensively at first base for Rivier. 


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Steve Rocchio, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., IF - Cranston, RI) - Picked up a pair of victories in Myrtle Beach ... Had a 3.38 ERA with 11 strikeouts ... Set a career-high with nine strikeouts in the win over New England College.

Matt Motyka, Lasell (So., INF - Vernon, Conn.) - Motyka batted .500 (4-8) in a pair of Laser losses with a double, a home run, five RBI and two runs scored. He went 2-for-5 on Saturday with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a loss to Framingham State, and went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI in a setback Sunday at Trinity.

Corey Cochran, Rivier (So, P/INF - Salem, N.H.) - Cochran was instrumental on the 2-4 week for the Raiders as the sophomore shortstop batted .591 while collecting 13 hits and two RBI over his six games played. Cochran recorded a hit in each of the games he appeared in while recording multi-hit games in four of the six games Rivier played on the week. In the team's double-header sweep of Finlandia, Cochran went 7-for-8 with two RBI while also earning the win on the mound with 5.1 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on nine hits and striking out three without walking a hitter. 

Drew Healey, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (SR, IF - Rochester, N.H.) - Healey hit .474 (9-19) with four runs, two doubles, a home run, and five RBI in six games in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational last week. The senior infielder was 3-3 with two runs, a homer and three RBI and reached base five times in a 9-8 win over Illinois College on March 5th and went 3-4 with a run, a double, and two RBI in a 7-3 triumph over Cornell College on March 8th. For the week he posted a .565 OBP with a .737 slugging percentage and fielded 41 chances without an error.

Jonathan Marchia, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (JR, RHP - Chicopee, Mass.) - Marchia tossed 7.2 innings and made four appearances in relief for the Monks last week. The junior closer posted a 2.35 ERA with nine strikeouts and just one walk while earning a pair of saves and holding opponents to a.179 (5-28) batting average.

Zack Aresty, Suffolk (Sr., OF - Wayland, Mass.) - Has matched his career-high two hits twice and has brought in a personal-best three RBI in back-to-back outings. In a five-game week, he has compiled a slash line of .467/.500/.667 with seven hits, including three doubles, for eight RBI and scored two runs of his own. On the base paths he has swiped two bags.
