WINTHROP, Mass. - Saint Joseph's College senior shortstop Joey Murphy (Derry, N.H.) has been named as a D3baseball.com Fourth Team All-American, as announced by the organization earlier this week. Murphy is the first Saint Joseph's player to earn All-America acclaim since former pitching standout Chad Rafferty '13 earned D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) third team honors following the 2012 campaign.
The postseason honors keep piling up for Murphy, who earlier this month was named as the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year and earned First Team All-GNAC, First Team D3baseball.com All-New England, and First Team All-Region honors from the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) and ABCA/Rawlings organizations. The four-year starter has also been selected to play in the NEIBA Senior All-Star Game.
Murphy earns the national accolade after hitting .427 (70-164) with 50 runs, 11 doubles, three triples, one home run, 24 RBI, and a program-record 37 stolen bases – the second-highest tally in the nation - this spring. He posted a .478 OBP with a .549 slugging percentage, registered 23 multiple-hit games, and ended his senior campaign riding a 17-game hitting streak. Murphy was held hitless in just four of the Monks' 44 games in 2019.
Also an outstanding defensive shortstop, Murphy registered a .939 fielding percentage after making 12 errors in 198 chances and played a part in 21 double plays this spring. His play in the field helped the 2019 SJC team break the program's single-season fielding percentage with a .968 mark.
Johnson & Wales University's Colby Greenhalgh earned First Team All-Region from the ABCA and NEIBA, while collecting Second Team accolades from d3baseball. A native of Plainfield, Conn. Greenhalgh was a First-Team All-GNAC selection at DH. A three-time GNAC Player of the Week, he led the GNAC in runs while finishing second in slugging percentage, third for on-base percentage and fifth for batting average. An ABCA All-Region selection in 2018, he was named to the GNAC All-Tournament team after hitting over .500 for the six-game postseason.
Suffolk University junior Tim Brigham earned Second Team All-Region from the ABCA and NEIBA, and Third Team d3baseball accolads. He helped Suffolk to back-to-back regular-season GNAC crowns, a first in program history, with a 14-2 league ledger en route to the Rams' conference post-season appearance. Brigham's bat led the way for the blue-and-gold in 2019 with the first-team All-GNAC outfielder producing 60 hits that brought in 45 runs on a .390 average. The right-handed batter hit for power with 26 extra-base hits including 23 doubles for an impressive .597 slugging percentage and 92 total bases.
Also from Saint Joseph's, senior outfielder Jared Gagne (Dover, N.H.) and senior catcher Greg Emanuelson earned Third Team ABCA & NEIBA All-Region accolades.
Gagne collects ABCA/Rawlings and NEIBA Third Team All-New England honors for the second-consecutive season after batting .387 (60-155) with 48 runs, 11 doubles, six triples, one home run, 33 RBI, and 35 stolen bases during his senior campaign. The team tri-captain boasted a .555 slugging percentage with a .438 OBP and logged 18 multiple-hit games while starting all 45 of the Monks' games this spring.
Emanuelson earns a pair of All-New England nods after registering a breakout senior season, during which he hit .346 (53-153) with 35 runs, 10 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 51 RBI, and eight stolen bases. The senior backstop led the team in slugging percentage (.588, the ninth-best mark in team history) and posted a .406 OBP while recording 14 multiple-hit games and 12 multi-RBI performances in 2019.
From JWU, junior Joe Maracic was a Third Team d3baseball All-Region choice and senior Adam Diehl was named Third Team All-Region ABCA/NEIBA.
Maracic picked up his first All-GNAC award as well as his first All-Region selection The Syosset, NY native was Second-Team All-GNAC infielder. Tabbed GNAC Player of the Week on April 1, he was 11th with a .358 batting average his .449 slugging percentage was 12th. He's in the league's top 10 for hits, RBIs and walks.
Injuries limited Diehl last season, but with a clean bill of health, he was a big contributor. He placed fifth in the GNAC with a .398 batting average and led the way with a .504 on-base percentage. The Cypress, Texas native was also sixth in RBIs and ninth in doubles. He hit over .450 during the postseason to work his way onto the All-Tournament team.
