GNAC Internship Job Description

The intern will be expected to assume several roles within the framework of the conference office. These roles include but are not limited to: community outreach, gender equity and diversity, multi-media communications, championships, awards, corporate partnership, sportsmanship, finance, sports information, compliance and governance.

Duties and responsibilities of the GNAC Assistant Commissioner

A. Community

The GNAC sponsors an annual community coaches clinics that teaches not only sport skills and strategy but also emphasizes sportsmanship. The curriculum includes: how to run a practice, offense, defense, special situations and sportsmanship. The intern would work with GNAC coaches and the community to schedule future clinics in all sports on our campuses throughout New England.

B. Conference SAAC Coordinator

Starting in January 2012 we have had a student representative on the NCAA SAAC national committee and it is imperative to maintain and strengthen the positive steps our GNAC SAAC has made at the grassroots level with the work of our national representative.

C. Conference Communications: Intern will be responsible for assisting the conference Director of Athletic Communications with various tasks including the archival process of conference data and statistics on the GNAC website, learning the StatCrew software to provide game-day support for the conference, help with the creation of multimedia pieces and continue to promote the GNAC's social media presence.

D. Professional Development Seminar

Every two years the GNAC, through the NCAA strategic grant, conducts a professional development seminar (PDS) for all coaches, assistants, AD's, SID's, ATC's, Deans of Students and Presidents (averages 200 plus per PDS). Over the years the themes have included: Student Athlete Well Being as it pertains to drugs and alcohol; Sportsmanship; Gender Equity; Student Athlete Well Being specifically Mental Health and By-Stander Intervention.

This is a large event to coordinate and the intern would work closely with the commissioner on everything from coordination of the conference location, menu, and keynote speakers to the publicity and feedback on the seminar.

E. Championships

Assist the commissioner in overseeing conference championships and playoffs including budget, event operations and game management.

F. Awards

Assist with the conference awards program which includes producing, distributing and presenting certificates and plaques.

G. Compliance and Governance

Assist Commissioner with NCAA and GNAC rules interpretations, enforcement, eligibility, and membership rules education.

H. Finance

Assist with annual budget

I. The GNAC has a program that asks for “specialists” from both our member institutions and external to volunteer on a myriad of projects, from writing stories, to working at championships to researching legislation, to updating the GNAC website and learning StatCrew. The NCAA intern would be an important link to this unique program that provides aspiring sports professionals a first introduction to the field and this responsibility would provide leadership and personnel management experience to the NCAA intern.
