Johnson & Wales FAR Lou Pullano to Attend NCAA Division III FAR Fellows Institute

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Faculty athletic representative
will represent JWU, GNAC in Indy

WINTHROP, Mass. – Johnson & Wales University Faculty Athletic Representative Louis A. Pullano has been selected as one of the 2015 NCAA Division III FAR Fellows and will represent JWU and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) at this fall’s FAR Fellows Institute in Indianapolis from October 16-17.

The FAR Fellows Institute was launched in 2010 and aims to increase the effectiveness of Division III FARs on the campus, conference and national levels.

“While I am very excited to participate in this important professional development event, I am most proud of being at the table, representing the GNAC and Johnson & Wales, while sharing ideas, best practices and new initiatives with other NCAA Division III FARs,” said Pullano. “Thank you to GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh for the nomination, JWU Executive Director of Athletics Mary Graf and Athletics Director Jamie Marcoux for their support during the nomination process. I look forward to sharing my experiences and initiatives with all this fall.”

Pullano and other institute attendees will participate in a three-day professional development program at the NCAA headquarters in Indy. The components of the program provide a thorough examination of best practices and issues surrounding the role and responsibility of the FAR.

The institute will also help FAR Fellows develop the leadership skills necessary to carry out their responsibilities on campus and strengthen the network of FARs needed to serve on conference and association-wide committees.

“Johnson & Wales is thrilled to have Lou Pullano representing both the GNAC and JWU at the Fellows Institute. He has a tremendous wealth of experience in both the academic and athletic setting, being a current professor and former athletic director,” said Marcoux. “He is an integral part of our athletic department and the overall academic success of our student-athletes. The leadership abilities that Lou possess and his collaborative nature will lend themselves well to his continued development as our FAR at the Fellows Institute.”

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions, 12 associate member institutions, and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
