NEWTON, Mass.--Host Lasell College outscored Western New England 10 to 3 at the free throw line en route to a 52-51 come-from-behind non-conference women's basketball triumph on Tuesday evening. Both teams enter the Thanksgiving weekend with identical 3-3 records.

Graduate student Nicole Daly paced the Golden Bears with 13 points, four rebounds and three steals. She was the only Golden Bear scorer in double digits, but junior Samantha McCann came off the bench to provide a strong inside presence with eight points. Sophomore Chelsea Vujs chipped in with six points and eight rebounds.

Lasell's Katie Stopera led all scorers with 20 points and Kayla Vincelette added 10 to go along with four rebounds and four assists while playing all 40 minutes. Stopera hit a 3-pointer with 1 minute and 18 seconds left in the contest to put the Lasers in front by one, and then recorded a pair of stops down the stretch to capture the win. Danielle Autencio grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

Western New England had two chances in the end to take the lead, but missed a 3-pointer with 57 seconds remaining and couldn't convert a pair of free throws 54 seconds later.

Things started well enough for the Golden Bears who opened up a 14-7 lead midway through the first half before a pair of baskets by Stopera and a Sammy Long layup stopped the run, making it 14-13 with 11:30 remaining. Then WNE broke open a 20-19 game with a 10-2 run beginning with 2:30 left, taking a 30-21 lead into the intermission.

Western New England held a 39-30 advantage with 12:39 left in the contest before Lasell went on an 11-2 run fueled by eight straight points by Vincelette to tie the game at 41-41 four minutes later. The two teams traded baskets over the next couple of minutes, with Lasell taking its first lead since it was 2-0 on a jumper by Breanna Williams made it 47-45 with 5:42 to go.

Western New England answered with a three-point play by Daly to go back in front 48-47, but a Long jumper with 2:27 remaining put Lasell ahead 49-48. Katie Eckert countered with a 3-pointer for WNE to go on top 51-49 with 1:44 to play, setting the stage for the final frantic minute.

Western New England will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. when they square off with Curry in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener.
