Brandywine Tops Rutgers-Camden 7-2

MEDIA, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's tennis team won its second-straight match on Saturday afternoon, topping Rutgers-Camden at home by a 7-2 count.

Brandywine ran out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping a trio of doubles matches. James Cellucci (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) and Stevie DiSipio (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) swept No. 3 doubles by an 8-0 score, while Matt Canavati (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) and Phuc Nguyen Ho (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) eased to an 8-1 triumph in the top flight. At No. 2 doubles, Victor Ficarra (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) and T.J. Foldes (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) went back-and-forth against Matt Deak and Jake Collette-Nippins, outlasting the duo for a 9-7 victory.

All six singles matches were decided in straight sets with the Lions claiming four victories to seal their second win of the spring.

Canavati earned a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 1, while Ho turned in a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2.

In fifth-flight singles, DiSipio posted a 6-1, 6-2 decision and Cellucci rounded out the singles winners by earning a straight-set victory by identical 6-1 scores during his sixth-flight bout.

Brandywine (2-1) remains at home Wednesday to host the College of St. Elizabeth at 3:30 pm in a dual match with both schools' women's squads also squaring off.
