Men's Tennis Falls to Emerson, 5-4

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Emerson College men's tennis team swept three doubles matches and posted singles wins at the second and third flights as the visiting Lions defeated Bridgewater State College, 5-4, this afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis courts in Bridgewater.

Emerson improves to 6-2 on the season while the host Bears fall to 2-3.

Sophomores Mark Jackman (Miami, FL) and Ken Nikravesh (Geneva, Switzerland) teamed for a 9-7 victory in a tough top flight double battle for the Lions, while freshman Dan Lapidus (San Diego, CA) and junior Garrett Mercer (Arlington, VA) paired up for an 8-4 triumph at number two doubles.

Nikravesh also rebounded from a set down to win at second flight singles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.  Lapidus posted Emerson's only other singles victory as he took the third flight match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

For Bridgewater State, sophomore Juan Ortiz (Asuncion, Paraguay) breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 straight set win in the number one singles match.  Ortiz remains unbeaten in singles play this season as he is now 4-0 competing exclusively at the top flight.  Sophomores Adam Laithy (North Smithfield, RI) and Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, MA) and junior Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA) also earned singles victories for the Bears.

BSC returns to the court on Saturday afternoon as the Bears host Wheelock College at 1 PM.  Emerson travels to Suffolk University on Saturday for a noontime match with the Rams.
