EAST BOSTON – Sunjoon Tenorio buried a pair of goals including the game winner 1:35 into the first extra session to push Suffolk men's soccer past Regis, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Five minutes into the first frame, the Rams got on the scoreboard. Leonardo Acosta sent a through ball to Tenorio, who beat out a Regis defender for an easy one-on-one with Pride goalie, Freddie Beckmann. The freshman sent a laser into the lower left corner to begin the scoring for the Rams.  

Ten minutes later, Tenorio had a chance to extend the Rams lead, but his shot from 20-yards out hit the cross bar and fell out of harms way.  

Branden Tan responded for the Pride in the 23rd minute when he gained control of a loose ball in the box and tapped it past Suffolk keeper Kyle Rosa, tying the match at one. 

With seven minutes remaining in the half, Sal Perrotto dribbled the ball past several Regis defenders and sent a shot into the box, but it sailed wide. The Rams were unable to garner any more scoring opportunities in the waning minutes of the first frame.  

Two and a half minutes into the second stanza Christian Venditti had a prime chance to put the Rams on top. The junior handled the ball on the top of the box and sent a rocket on goal. Beckmann made a diving save with his fingertips to keep the match tied.  

Regis had an opportunity in the 55th minute when Novak Santi Pedraza received a high arcing through ball deep in the box. The forward was able to gain control of the ball for a split second before colliding with Rosa. With both student-athletes on the ground, Sanit Pedreaza's ensuing shot sailed high over the cross bar and the 1-all game stood.   

The Rams retaliated in the 83rd minute as Acosta rattled off a shot from just inside the box; however, it rebounded off of the right post and out of play.  

With 18 seconds remaining in the half, Tenorio uncorked a shot. This time the Regis defenders backed up Beckmann by blocking the rookie's attempt. Venditti picked up the pieces off of the rebound with a great game-winning attempt. The game-winning attempt went wide and the game transitioned into overtime. 

A minute and half into overtime Perrotto floated the ball ahead to Tenorio who picked up the pieces and beat Beckmann across the top of the box, tapping the ball into a empty net to seal the victory for the Rams.  

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

• Rosa turned away four shots in the victory. 
• Beckmann had six saves, including four in the second half.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Tenorio was responsible for both of Suffolk's strikes. 
• Acosta and Perrotto each handed out one assist. 
• Suffolk had a 26-18 advantage on shots, including an 8-6 margin in shots on goal. 
• The Pride held a 7-5 edge on corners.  

NOTEWORTHY

• Suffolk grabbed a 5-4-0 edge in the all-time series with Regis, which dates back to 2011, with its first win over the Pride since 2016. 
• The Rams and Pride went into extra time for the third time in the all-time series. 
• Suffolk moved to 2-1-0 versus Regis in extra time, defeating the Pride in OT for the first time since 2014. 
• The Rams and Pride needed just one overtime to decide a winner for the first time. The first two OT meetings between Suffolk and Regis went into two extra session. 
• Suffolk went into overtime for the third time this season. 
• The OT victory is the first for the blue-and-gold since a 1-0 OT win over Emmanuel October 10, 2016. 
• Tenorio extended his point streak to four games. Over that stretch he produced. 
• Tenorio provided the game-winning goal for the fourth time this season. 
• Acosta tallied his second assist of the campaign. 
• Perrotto picked up his first assist of the season. 
• Rosa matched a personal-best four stops in his first collegiate victory.
