CoSIDA RELEASES: BASEBALL | SOFTBALL
WINTHROP, Mass. – The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball and Softball Teams, as selected by CoSIDA, were announced on late last week, with tfour Great Northeast Athletic Conference student-athletes receiving recongition: Emmanuel College junior Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Johnson & Wales University (RI) senior Ally Mishol, Norwich University senior Emily Oliver, and Saint Joseph's College of Maine senior Jared Gagne.
The program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The four are now eligible for even higher honors, as First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (when selected) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
Ramirez-Tejeda, who was named the 2019 GNAC Softball Player of the Year, enjoyed one of the most productive offensive campaigns in Emmanuel College history, leading the GNAC and finishing the year with single-season records at Emmanuel in home runs (10) and slugging percentage (.814). The Cambridge, Mass. native batted a team-best .381 on the year to rank 14th in the GNAC, driving in 33 runs to rank second while also scoring 33 runs to rank tied for fifth.
The junior is a Criminal Justic major with a 3.81 GPA. The two-sport standout also earned women's basketball all-district honors back in February. The outfielder is the first player in Emmanuel history to earn a pair of Google Cloud Academic All-Region® accolades in two different sports and is just the second player in program history to earn All-Region honors joining Katie Foley '04 who was the softball program's first recipient in 2003 and then earned the honor again in 2004.
Mishol is a senior with a 3.94 GPA as a Sports, Entertainment & Event Management major at JWU. She was announced as an All-GNAC Second Team selection last week after she hit .333 with a .563 slugging percentage that was 12th in the GNAC. A native of Longmeadow, Mass., she belted a career-high seven home runs which ranked second in the league. She was also among the league leaders in doubles and total bases. Mishol had a seven-game hitting streak and 15-game on-base streak.
Oliver was a three-sport standout for the Cadets on the volleyball, women's basketball and softball teams prior to graduating last Saturday. The 3.93 mechanical engineering major with a pre-med track was named the Norwich University Senior Female Athlete of the Year. She was also presented with the Looke Award, which is given to the senior who has distinguished himself/herself athletically, academically and has displayed leadership as a civilian.
Oliver compiled a 10-8 record on the mound with a 3.31 earned run average this season. She also batted .348 with a home run and 13 RBIs to go along with 32 hits on the season. On top of her athletic accomplishments, Oliver was a captain on all three of her teams as a senior.
Gagne, a Finance & Marketing Major at Saint Joseph's, heads into the NCAA Tournament hitting .413 (59-143) with 46 runs, 10 doubles, six triples, one home run, 30 RBI, and 35 stolen bases. He leads the GNAC in triples and ranks second in runs, hits and stolen bases and third in hitting and total bases (84) and fifth in slugging percentage (.587). Gagne is the only GNAC player or individual hailing from a Maine college or university to collect 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team honors.
The senior captain is the first player in SJC baseball history to earn a pair of Google Cloud Academic All-America® accolades and is one of seven St. Joe's players to be honored by the national organization. He is joined on the exclusive list by Taylor Black '17, Jameson Collins '17, Taylor Reuillard '16, Nic Lops '16, Alex Valenti '15 and Chris Campbell '11.
