Saint Joseph's Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Field Hockey Learns NCAA Tournament Opponents

Monks Field Hockey Draws
Endicott Wednesday (6PM)

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division III Field Hockey Committee announced today the field of 24 teams that will compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship.

Saint Joseph's College (19-1, 7-0 GNAC) will play at Endicott College (17-4, 12-0 CCC) in an opening-round game on Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Both the Monks and Gulls earned an automatic qualifier after clinching conference titles over the weekend, when St. Joe's toppled Lasell College, 4-0, in the GNAC Championship on Sunday and Endicott edged University of New England, 1-0, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Saturday.

Wednesday's winner will travel to Pennsylvania to face Messiah College, the top-ranked team in the country in the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Poll, at 11:00 AM on Saturday.

Sixteen teams will compete in eight first-round games on campus sites Wednesday, Nov. 7. The eight first-round winners, along with the eight teams that received a first-round bye, will compete at four campus sites during second/third-round play, Saturday and Sunday, November 10 and 11. 

The winners of the four sites will advance to the semifinals and final, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17 and 18, at Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, Pennsylvania. Semifinals will be played at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Eastern time, Saturday, Nov. 17, with the championship game being played at 1 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday, Nov. 18. Seventeen conferences have been awarded automatic qualification for their champions into the 2018 championship. Two teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. Finally, five berths were reserved for Pool C, which consists of institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champions and the remaining teams from Pool B.


SJC Women's Soccer to Travel
to Swarthmore, Pa. Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Committee announced today the field of 64 teams for the 2018 Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

Saint Joseph's College (16-3, 10-2 GNAC) will play at #22 Swarthmore College's (15-2-2, 7-1-2 Centennial) Clothier Field Stadium in the first round of the national tournament on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Monks earned an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history after upsetting top-seeded Lasell College, 1-0, in the GNAC Championship on Sunday. The Garnet also claimed an automatic berth after toppling #4 Johns Hopkins University, 5-1, in the Centennial Conference Championship on Sunday.

The Saint Joseph's/Swarthmore winning will face the victor of the New York University/Virginia Wesleyan first round matchup on Sunday, kick-off time TBD.

One team was selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions, as well as members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final 20 berths were reserved for Pool C, which includes institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that did not win their conference championship and any remaining Pool B teams.

Sixteen four-team sites will conduct first- and second-round play on the first weekend of the championship, November 9 and 10 or 10 and 11. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites November 16 and 17 or 17 and 18. All games, except the semifinals and final, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the semifinals November 30 and December 1, at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina, with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Greensboro Sports Commission serving as hosts. 

Williams College is the defending national championship, having defeated the University of Chicago 1-0 in last year's championship game.

Middlebury on Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Committee has announced the field of 62 teams for the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer
Championship.

#5/9 Saint Joseph's College (20-0-0, 11-0-0 GNAC) will play Middlebury College (10-3-3, 6-2-2 NESCAC) in the opening round of the national tournament at Hitchcock Field on the campus of Amherst College on Saturday, kick-off time TBD. The Monks claimed an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament after tipping Johnson & Wales University, 1-0, in the GNAC Championship on Sunday. Middlebury earned an at-large berth into the tourney despite falling to Williams College in the first round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament last Saturday.

The first game at Amherst on Saturday features the #20 Mammoths (12-4-1, 6-3-1 NESCAC) and Bridgewater State University (11-7-1, 5-2-0 MASCAC), start time TBD. The Saint Joseph's/Middlebury winner will face the Amherst/Bridgewater State victor in a second round matchup on Sunday, time TBD.

All tournament games leading up to the national semifinals will be played on the campuses of the competing institutions. Two sites will host three teams for first- and second- round competition Nov. 9 and 10 or 10 and 11. Fourteen sites will host four teams for first-and second-round competition Nov. 9 and 10 or 10 and 11. 

Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites Nov. 16 and 17 or 17 and 18. Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the national semifinals, which take place Nov. 30 at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina, with UNC Greensboro and Greensboro Sports Commission serving as hosts. The national championship game will be played Dec. 1. The Division III women's soccer national semifinals and championship games will also be held at UNCG Soccer Stadium Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
