GNAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Report #12

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tyree Mitchell, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., G)

Senior guard Tyree Mitchell put on a scoring display this past week to keep the BlueJays undefeated in GNAC play. The senior guard went off for a career-high 42 points on 13-for-19 shooting from the floor while collecting his 1,000th career point and bringing down six boards in a blowout victory over Dean on Tuesday (Jan. 30). Then, on Saturday (Feb. 3), he was one rebound shy of a double-double as he scored 26 points on 9-for-14 shooting and brought down nine rebounds to pace the BlueJays in a huge victory over Albertus Magnus. Mitchell averaged 34 points per game on 67/62/84 shooting splits while grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game and dishing out two assists a game.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Elijah Miller, Mitchell (Fr., G)

First-year guard Elijah Miller averaged a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds a game, while also collecting three steals a game to help the Mariners to a 2-0 week. On Tuesday (Jan. 30), Miller had a well-rounded game on both ends as he put up 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a close victory over Anna Maria. He followed up with a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds with two steals in a victory over New England College on Saturday (Feb. 3).


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Chaz Cullum, Colby-Sawyer – Put up 14 points, five assists, five rebounds, and four steals in a setback against Lasell and then scored a career-high 24 points with three assists and three steals in a win over Anna Maria. Averaged 19 points on 73.9 percent (17-for-23), 3.5 rebounds, four assists, and 3.5 steals per game.

Donte Pope, Emmanuel – Averaged 16 points with seven rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week. Registered a double-double against Albertus Magnus (19 points, 10 rebounds) while collecting four steals.

Marcus Lewis, Lasell – Averaged 21.7 points with 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game in a 2-1 week. Collected 35 points and seven boards with four steals in a win over Colby-Sawyer.

Jaylyn Clardy, Mitchell – Averaged 18 points, 6.5 rebounds, four assists, and 1.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week. Was one rebound shy of a double-double (16 points, nine boards) and dished out five assists against Anna Maria. Put up 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals over New England College.

Jalen Olivero, Norwich – Collected 16 points and six boards over Elms and scored 24 points against Johnson & Wales. Averaged 20 points off the bench on 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from the floor and grabbed 4.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week.

Russell Rau, Regis – Collected two double-doubles in wins over New England College (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Rivier (13 points, 15 rebounds). Averaged 15 points and 13.5 rebounds with a steal and 1.5 blocks per game.

John Paul Frazier, Saint Joseph’s (Maine) – Scored 21 points on 8-for-15 shooting and snagged four boards in a win over Rivier and put up 15 points and five rebounds in another victory over Lasell. Averaged 18 points and 4.5 rebounds a game.
