GNAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Report #2

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Justice Washington, Albertus Magnus (Sr., C/F)

Senior Justice Washington played well on both ends of the floor for the Falcons. Washington averaged a double-double with 18 points per game on an efficient 59 percent (23-for-39) from the floor and snagged 13 rebounds while also being active defensively with 1.7 steals and 2.7 blocks per game. On Tuesday (Nov. 14), the senior went 5-for-9, scoring 14 points, grabbed nine boards, and collected three steals in a 85-78 win over Hartford. Two days later (Nov. 16), Washington played his part in the Falcons’ double-overtime victory over Montclair State as he scored recorded a double-double (12 points and 13 rebounds) and swatted away five shots. Then, on Saturday (Nov. 18), Washington recorded yet another double-double with a career-high 28 points and 17 rebounds while also collecting two blocks and steals apiece.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Andy Madesko, Lasell (Fr., G)

First year Andy Madesko had a productive week coming off the bench for Lasell this past week. Madesko averaged a double-double with 15.5 points per game on 45.8 percent (11-for-24) from the field and 10 rebounds. The first year also added three steals per contest for the Lasers. On Tuesday (Nov. 14), he went 6-for-13, registering 17 points, grabbed nine boards, and shined defensively as well with four steals and a block in a blowout victory over Gordon. Then, on Thursday (Nov. 16), Madesko recorded a double-double (15 points and 11 rebounds) while also getting two steals in a 78-70 victory over Eastern Nazarene.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Jopaul Mckrieth, Anna Maria – Averaged 21.5 points per game on 56.3 percent (18-for-32), 8.5 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks for the Amcats. Mckrieth scored 16 points, grabbed five boards, and swatted away a whopping eight shots in a setback against Nichols on Thursday (Nov. 16). Then, on Saturday (Nov. 18), the sophomore scored 27 points on 61.1 percent (11-for-18) and grabbed 12 rebounds to defeat Gordon 84-72.

Donte Pope, Emmanuel – Averaged a double-double of 18.7 points and 15.3 rebounds per game for the Saints. Pope recorded a 20 point-20 rebound game on Tuesday (Nov. 14) in a blowout victory over Fitchburg State. On Friday (Nov. 17), he collected his second double-double with 11 points and 11 boards in a setback against Endicott in the 40th annual EC Tip-Off tournament. The next day (Nov. 18), Pope collected his 1,000th career point as the senior went on to score 25 points and snagged 15 boards to collect his third double-double on the week in a victory over Skidmore.

Marcus Lewis, Lasell – Averaged 17.5 points on 50 percent (12-for-24) from the field and 40 percent (4-for-10) from three-point range for the Lasers. Lewis put up 16 points, nine boards, and three steals in a blowout victory over Gordon on Tuesday (Nov. 14). Two days later (Nov. 16), the junior put up a career-high 19 points and eight boards in a 78-70 victory over Eastern Nazarene.

Russell Rau, Regis – Averaged 20.7 points on 48.7 percent (19-for-39), 50 percent from three (12-for-24), and 85.7 percent from the charity stripe (12-for-14). Rau put up 19 points (4-for-9 from three) and seven boards in a setback on Tuesday (Nov. 14) against Rhode Island College. Then, on day 1 of the Autism Acceptance Classic (Nov. 17), the junior put up 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting and 4-for-7 from the three-point line while also bringing down six rebounds, collecting four assists, and three steals in a setback against Salve Regina. The next day (Nov. 18), he scored 22 points on 50-50-100 shooting splits and grabbed seven rebounds to give the Pride their first victory on the season over SUNY Canton.

Odarius Cade, Rivier – Scored 22 points per game on 40 percent from the field (14-for-35), 47.4 percent from three (9-for-19), and 87.5 from the free throw line (7-for-8) while also snagging down 6.5 rebounds and collecting three steals a game. Cade scored 26 points for the Raiders on Thursday (Nov. 16) going 8-for-17 from the floor, 5-for-9 from three, and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe while collecting five boards, three assists and three steals in a 77-61 victory over Fitchburg State. On Saturday (Nov. 18), the junior registered 18 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists in a 73-56 victory over Brandeis.

Jalen Samuels, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Averaged 18 points on 56.1 percent (23-for-41) from the floor while grabbing 6.7 rebounds per game. Samuels put up 16 points (6-for-10 from floor), six rebounds, and two blocks in a Tuesday (Nov. 14) victory over Nichols. Then, on day 1 of the UMass Dartmouth Lafrance Hospitality Classic (Nov. 17), the senior scored 24 points on 11-for-19 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds as well as three steals in a victory over Colby. The next day (Nov. 18), Samuels put up 14 points and nine rebounds in a setback against Trinity (Conn.).
