GNAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Report #4

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

AJ Weston, Dean (Sr., G)

Senior AJ Weston averaged 21.7 points per game for the Bulldogs and knocked down 93.8 percent of his free-throws (30-for-32) while also collecting seven rebounds and four assists per game in an undefeated 3-0 week. On Monday (Nov.27), Weston scored 21 points while grabbing eight boards and collecting five assists in a close victory over Framingham State. Then, on Wednesday (Nov. 29), the senior scored 21 points and four boards/assists apiece and two steals. On Saturday (Dec. 2), he scored 23 points and collected nine boards, six assists, and two steals in a thrilling 91-90 overtime victory over conference opponent Regis.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Andy Madesko, Lasell (Fr., G)

First year Andy Madesko played a solid role for a 2-1 week for the Lasers. Madesko averaged 11.0 points per game on 68.8 percent shooting (11-for-16) from the floor and snagged 6.0 rebounds while collecting 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per contest. The first-year was an instrumental piece to a blowout victory over Plymouth State on Thursday (Nov. 30) as Madesko scored 21 points, shooting 8-for-10 from the field, while collecting six boards, seven assists, and three steals.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Justice Washington, Albertus Magnus – Averaged a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) in a 1-1 week for the Falcons. Washington recorded a double-double this past week on Tuesday (Nov. 28) against nationally ranked Keene State (#7) with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Then, on Saturday (Dec. 2), the senior put up 16 points and nine rebounds in a victory over Colby-Sawyer.

Ryan Grijalva, Emmanuel – Averaged 18.5 points on 53.6 percent shooting from the field (15-for-28) and 50.0 percent from three (3-for-6) while also grabbing 6.0 rebounds per game in two games this week for the Saints. Grijalva put up 16 points and seven boards against nationally ranked Williams (#15) on Tuesday (Nov. 28). Then, on Saturday (Dec. 2), the senior put up 21 points and five boards vs Rivier.

Josh Zangerle, Johnson & Wales – The junior scored 21 points, knocking down 50 percent (5-for-10) from the three-point line, for the Wildcats and collected three rebounds and two assists in a blowout conference victory over Elms on Saturday (Dec. 2).

Marcus Lewis, Lasell – Averaged 18 points per game with six rebounds and two steals in a 2-1 week for the Lasers. Lewis scored 18 points in a setback vs Wheaton on Tuesday (Nov. 28). Then, on Thursday (Nov. 30), the junior registered a double-double (19 points, 11 rebounds) in a blowout win over Plymouth State. Finally, on Saturday (Dec. 2), he scored 19 points once again and added four boards and two steals in the first conference victory over Mitchell.

Justin Evelyn, Regis – Averaged 22 points per game on 59.1 percent shooting from the floor (13-for-22), 60.0 percent from the three-point line (9-for-15), and 90.0 percent from the charity stripe (9-for-10) while also collecting 4.5 assists and a steal per contest in a 1-1 week for the Pride. The graduate student scored 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting (4-for-7 from three) and collected three assists in a 73-50 victory over Lesley on Tuesday (Nov. 28). Then, on Saturday (Dec. 2), Evelyn scored a career-high 28 points on 7-for-12 shooting (5-for-8 from three) while collecting six assists in a 91-90 overtime setback against Dean.

Jalen Samuels, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) – Averaged 17 points on 60.9 percent from the floor (14-for-23), 5.5 rebounds, a steal, and 1.5 blocks per game for the BlueJays in a 2-0 week. On Wednesday (Nov. 29), Samuels put up 17 points, five boards, and two blocks over Babson. Then, on Saturday (Dec. 2), the senior registered 17 points, six boards, two steals, and a block in a conference victory over Saint Joseph’s (Maine).
