GNAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Report #5

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Owen Liss, Norwich (Jr., F)

Junior Owen Liss led Norwich to a 2-0 week as he averaged 26 points per game for the Cadets, shooting 79.3 percent from the floor (23-for-29) while also collecting 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals and a block per game. On Wednesday (Dec. 6), the junior put up 22 points (10-for-14) while snagging nine boards and collecting three assists and four steals in a blowout victory over Lesley. Then, on Saturday (Dec. 9), Liss put up 30 points, shooting 13-for-15 from the floor, while also collecting eight boards, four assists, two blocks and a steal in a close 74-70 conference victory over Anna Maria.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Che Hanks, Lasell (Fr., G)

First year Che Hanks averaged 12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game for the Lasers this past week. Hanks put up 20 points on 66.7 percent shooting from the field (8-for-12) while also notching five rebounds, seven assists, and adding a steal and a block apiece in a 82-72 victory over Husson on Tuesday (Dec. 5). On Saturday (Dec. 9), the first year put up 10 points, six boards, two assists, and two steals in a setback against Worcester State.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Justice Washington, Albertus Magnus – Averaged a double-double (17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds) on 61.9 percent from the floor (13-for-21) in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. Washington recorded his first double-double on the week Tuesday (Dec. 5) against Amherst with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Then, on Saturday (Dec. 9), the senior put up another double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds in a GNAC victory over Dean.

Jopaul Mckrieth, Anna Maria – Averaged 17 points and nine boards for the Amcats this past week. The sophomore put up 12 points and eight boards in a setback against Westfield State on Wednesday (Dec. 6) and then recorded a double-double (22 points, 10 rebounds) in a GNAC setback against Norwich on Saturday (Dec. 9).

Donte Pope, Emmanuel – Averaged a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) on 59.3 percent shooting from the field (16-for-27) while also collecting a block for the Saints. Pope put up 16 points and six boards in a setback against Connecticut College on Tuesday (Dec.6) and recorded a double-double (24 points, 14 rebounds) while shooting 9-for-12 from the floor in their conference victory over Johnson & Wales.

Jaylyn Clardy, Mitchell – Averaged 17 points, 6.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Mariners. Clardy put up 15 pts, six boards, and five steals in a setback against Trinity (Conn.) on Tuesday (Dec. 6) and then followed up with a double-double on Saturday (Dec. 9), putting up 19 points and 12 assists, including five boards and two steals in a victory over Pratt.

Wani Donato, Saint Joseph’s (Maine) – Put up a double-double in 28 minutes of action with 16 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 58.3 percent (7-for-12) and collecting four assists and two blocks in a blowout GNAC victory over Regis.

Tyree Mitchell, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) – Averaged 24 points on 60.7 percent from the floor (17-for-28) and 57.1 percent from three (8-for-14) while grabbing 4.5 rebounds for the BlueJays in a 1-1 week. On Tuesday (Dec. 6), Mitchell scored 28 points, going 9-for-16 from the floor and knocking down six three-pointers, and grabbed five rebounds in a setback against nationally-ranked #12 Tufts. Then, on Saturday (Dec. 9), the senior went 8-for-12, scoring 20 points and grabbing four rebounds in a GNAC win over New England College.
