Softball Picks Up a Pair Over Anna Maria

PAXTON, MA: Rivier softball swept the AMCATS of Anna Maria College in conference action this afternoon.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/15/23

- Score: Rivier 9, AMC 4. Rivier 3, AMC 2

- Records: Rivier (12-16, 4-4 GNAC), AMC (10-17, 0-4 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One

-  The AMCATS would strike first in the bottom of the third inning, going up 1-0 on a Sabrina Liston double to center field. The Raiders wouldn't respond until the top of the fifth when they put together a five-run inning to jump out in front.

- Hailey Rapaglia (Methuen, MA) would get Riv on the board with an RBI single to center field. Christina Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, MA) would bring in the remaining four runs with one swing of the bat, hitting a grand slam to left field.  

- Anna Maria wouldn't go away easily, scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to get within one, 5-4. After a wild pitch and sacrifice fly by the AMCATS, Sam Dahill would plate the third run of the inning on a double to left field.

- Olivia Couto (Fairhaven, MA) would get the top of the seventh going by getting hit by a pitch after the bases were loaded to plate the first of four runs that would come in to score. Alyssa Gerardi (Manchester, NH) would come up in the inning and clear the bases with a three-RBI single to center field.

- Sydney Greeno (Shirley, MA) would get the win (5-7) after going 5.1, allowing eight hits, four earned runs, and four strikeouts. Eden Forget would be tagged with the loss (3-7). Courtney Marioles (Hudson, NH) would get credit for the save after going 1.2 innings and allowing just two hits.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Panagiotopoulos was 2-for-3 with a grand slam (4 RBIs), and two runs scored.

-  Gerardi was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

-  Dahill was 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two

-  The Raiders scored their three runs in the first two innings of the game. They plated two in the top of the first. The first came across on a double to right field by Rapaglia. Panagiotopoulos would push the second across on a ground out to second base.

-  The AMCATS would plate one of two in the bottom of the first on a Forget single to right field. Riv would score their last run in the top of the second on a sac fly by Kylee Caetano (New Bedford, MA). The final run came in for Anna Maria in the bottom of the fourth when Michelle Cilley stole home.

- Nicole Verrette (Haverhill, MA) would get the win (4-4) in this one after completing the game with just nine hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts. Sabrina Liston would get the loss (7-10) after pitching in all seven innings with six hits allowed, three earned runs, and six strikeouts.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Caetano was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

-  Panagiotopoulos was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

-  Cilley was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
