MLX: Lasell falls to Roger Williams in first road game

BRISTOL, R.I. – Sophomore Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.) tallied four goals and an assist Wednesday afternoon to lead Roger Williams University to a 9-5 victory over Lasell College in a non-conference men's lacrosse game at windy and frigid Bayside Field.

Roger Williams improves to 2-1 on the season, while Lasell drops to 1-1. Senior Mike Susi (Gorham, Maine) led the Lasers with three goals in the setback.

After a scoreless eight minutes of play, the Hawks gained a three-goal lead in a three-minute stretch of the first period. Brandon Fabel (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) both scored goals within 40 seconds of one another, followed by a pass from Mullane to Gabe Reale (Fairfield, Conn.).

Seniors Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) and Susi scored unassisted goals to put Lasell on the board before Mullane fired in his first goal to put the hosts up 4-2 after one period.

Mullane fell to the ground as he scored the only goal of the second period for RWU, taking an assist from Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.), to give the Hawks a 5-2 lead. That score stood for the final 13 minutes of the first half.

The Hawks outscored the Lasers 3-2 in the third period to pull ahead 8-4, including two goals by Mullane, while sophomore Colby Buccheri (Rowley, Mass.) and Susi found the net for Lasell. Each team scored once in the final frame, Grier for RWU and Susi for Lasell, for the 9-5 final.

Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) took the win in goal for RWU, making 14 saves in the game. Freshman Alex Beauchemin (Westfield, Mass.) made eight saves for Lasell in the loss. Junior Brendan Johnson finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Lasers.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, March 9, as Roger Williams will host Johnson & Wales University and Lasell will meet Plymouth State at 1 p.m. at Grellier Field.
