Blazers Come Up Short Against The Eagles

CHICOPEE, MA - Women's soccer battled hard for 90 minutes against the Husson University Eagles. First year forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, MA) scored the first goal of the season and put the Blazers on the board in the second half.   

The Basics:

Score: Elms 1, Husson 3

Records: Elms (0-1-1) | Husson (1-0)

 

How it happened:

The Blazers played a more defensive half to start the game, with only 3 shots on goal offensively. Our defensive line battled hard to keep the ball out of our goal. Senior defender captain Audri Cope (Ludlow, MA) had two outstanding blocks to prevent the Eagles from scoring in the twentieth minute of the game. The Eagles were hungry for a goal, and after a couple attempts, sophomore Kate Harriman (Glenburn, ME) scored at the 30:20 mark. Making the score 0-1 with 15 minutes left in the first half. Blazers goalkeeper junior Gianna Liquori (East Longmeadow, MA) had five (5) saves by the end of the first half.

1st half by the numbers:

Just barely a minute into the second half the Blazers forwards were quick to find the net when first year Jamie McDonough scored Blazers first season goal in the 46:04 minute mark. McDonough made a beautiful play off of a saved shot from teammate senior Elaina Vilar (Watertown, CT). Making the score tied 1-1 to start the half.  The Blazers kept battling to get another goal, but the pace of the game changed and slowly the Eagles took the lead back. Senior Willow Whitten (Caribou, ME) scored in the 60 minute mark, and quickly Senior Alexa Thayer (New Gloucester, ME) scored in the 68th minute mark for the Eagles. The final of the game was 1-3, the Eagles taking the victory.
