Blazers Open Up 2019 Campaign With Home Win

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's Soccer team opened up their 2019 season with a convincing 5-1 win over the visiting Albertus Magnus Falcons on Friday night.

The Blazers opened up the scoring at the 18:14 mark on a corner from Haley Richard that was knocked in by Zaya Clark (Springfield, MA). Elms would add to their lead in the 21st minute when Morgan Foucault (Putnam, CT) collected a rebound off a shot from Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, MA) and deposited it into the back of the net.

The visiting Falcons would have two great chances before the end of the half, but a goal line saves from Haley Richard and from Paige Silva would send the Blazers into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Albertus came out strong to start the second half but would be denied by two strong save from Elms' senior keeper Becca Molin (West Hartford, CT). The Blazers would find their game and get two massive goals from forward Sydney Goodwin (Lawrence, MA) at the 55:27 mark and again in the 58th minute.

Shannon Denault (Chicopee, MA) would add a fifth goal for the Blazers on a spectacular volley from 26yrds out into the left side netting off an assist from Baba Bernard (Chicopee, MA).

The Flacons would get on the board in the 76th minute when Mercedes Faust's header slipped into the Blazer goal.

Molin would finish with 9 saves in the win.

The Blazers are back in action on Sunday 9/1 when they host Suffolk University at 1PM on Leary Field.
