Basketball Topped By Monks, 54-28

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball fell to the visiting Saint Joseph?s College Monks 54-28 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Tuesday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. The Sharks move to 2-17 overall and 0-8 in the GNAC, while the victory lifts the Monks to 17-5, 7-1 GNAC.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball fell to the visiting Saint Joseph's College Monks 54-28 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Tuesday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. The Sharks move to 2-17 overall and 0-8 in the GNAC, while the victory lifts the Monks to 17-5, 7-1 GNAC.

 

The Monks shot 42.2 percent from the floor and cruised to their seventh conference win behind Abby Young, who netted 17 and Molly Mack who added 10. Saint Joseph's took the lead for good with ten minutes remaining in the first half as Sarah Assante grabbed a team-high five rebounds and Theresa Hendrix picked up five steals.

 

Simmons senior Leah Davis (Cranston, R.I.) chipped in 11 points for the Sharks, while first year Liz Brasa (East Hartford, Conn.) posted nine rebounds. The Monks held the Sharks to just 25.6% from the floor and lead by as many as 26 points in the second half before Jen Janiak (Chelmsford, Mass.) drained a trey. But the Monks kept up the pressure and cruised to victory.

 

The Sharks host the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday, Feb. 15 in their final home game of the season. Tip off is set for 1:00 PM. The Monks host Suffolk University in more GNAC action at 1:00 PM on the same date.
