Falcons Handle Sharks in GNAC Basketball

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ? Simmons Basketball fell to the MIT Engineers 64-29 in non-conference women?s basketball action on Wednesday night. Senior Leah Davis (Cranston, R.I.) paced the Sharks (1-5) with 15 points to go along with four rebounds.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball fell to the Albertus Magnus Falcons 71-50 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Thursday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. The Falcons (4-17, 1-6 GNAC) held the Sharks (2-15, 0-6 GNAC) to 36 percent shooting from the floor.

First Year Kim Hixon (Taunton, Mass.) scored 15 points for Simmons, going 8-12 from the free-throw line and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Classmate Liz Brasa (East Hartford, Conn.) added 10 points and Leah Davis (Cranston, R.I.) netted seven.

 

Lianna Carrero buried 30 points to pace the Falcons, while Annie Raucci and Kelsey Pendagast added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

 

The Falcons broke the game open midway in the second half, converting 24 points off of Sharks turnovers. Eliza Henley (Warner, N.H.) hit a jumper with 11 minutes to play to bring the Sharks within ten and Hixon and Jen Janiak (Chelmsford, Mass.) closed the gap to six, but Albertus Magnus went on a seven-point run and maintained their lead until the end.

 

The Sharks continue GNAC play with a 1:00 PM game on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Lasell. Albertus Magnus hosts Mount Ida College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
