Sharks Best Women’s Lacrosse

NASHUA, NH: Rivier women's lacrosse was defeated by the Sharks of Simmons University this evening in GNAC action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/5/23

- Score: Simmons 20, Rivier 7

- Records: Simmons (9-2, 7-0 GNAC), Rivier (3-5, 2-5 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Sharks made quick work of the Raiders in this one finding themselves up 12-2 after the first quarter. Abby Stoller highlighted the quarter with three goals for Simmons. Kat Wood and Frida Turriza both found the back of the net twice in the quarter as well. The Raiders scored two in the opening quarter. The first came from Cassie Hemmerdinger (Pelham, NH), and the second on a player-up opportunity by Sarah Lachance (Chelmsford, MA).

- Lachance would open the second quarter with the third Rivier goal. Riley Campbell would net two after Lachance's goals to bring the game to 14-3. The half would end with another Shark score from Cameron Richards.

- The second half would get underway with two quick Simmons goals from Layla Drinkwater and Emily Duffley. Caitlin Newell (Litchfield, NH) would break the five-goal run for the Sharks with her first of the game. Lachance would complete the hat trick to end the third quarter with the score still in Simmons favor of 17-5.

- The fourth started with two goals from Simmons, Stoller got her fourth, and Kayla Boulas got her first of the contest. Chiara Skeels (Swanton, VT) found the back of the net first for the Raiders in the fourth on a free position shot. Lachance would end the scoring for the night with 31 seconds left to get her fourth goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Katie Castle got the win (6-0) after making 3 saves

Lindsey Kruger (New Bedford, MA) was tagged with the loss (2-3) after making 5 saves.

-  Shots: Simmons 33, Rivier 15

- Rivier women's lacrosse will be back Saturday when they travel to the University of Saint Joseph's for a 1 pm game.
