BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball led by one at the half but the visiting Suffolk University Rams put up a big second half to secure the 56-47 win Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.

Simmons (2-12, 0-3 GNAC) senior Leah Davis (Cranston, R.I) netted a season-high 16 points on the day, while classmate Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) posted eight points and first year Liz Brasa (East Hartford, Conn.) added seven. The Rams (9-5, 4-1 GNAC) were led by Shelby Santini with 14 points and Georgia Bourikas, who came off the bench and added 10.

There were several lead changes in the first half, as the Sharks took an early five-point lead off a trey by May. Suffolk's Kelsey Schiebel closed the gap to two with a three of her own before Chelsea Campellone drained both free throws to tie the game at 15. Simmons first year Kim Hixon (Taunton, Mass.) hit a deep shot from behind the arc to take the lead and two free throws by Brasa increased the Sharks lead. Schiebel closed the margin to two before May hit a jumper with 14 seconds to play to open the lead. Ram's sophomore Katie Murray hit a three with just three seconds to play to cut the Sharks lead to one at the half.

The Rams regained the lead in the second half as Santini hit two and Jessica Bard added another for a 30-26 lead. Davis drilled a three but a Sharks foul gave the Rams the opportunity to widen their lead. With just under 11 minutes to play, Bourikas made both free throws to give the Rams a 10-point lead, their largest of the game.

Simmons chipped away, as Ashley McAdams (Freeport, N.Y.) and Hixon closed the gap to six but the Rams continued to dominate in the paint and earned the 56-47 victory.

The Sharks return to action on Thursday, Jan. 30 at Norwich University in more GNAC action. The Rams travel to Bridgewater State on Tuesday, Jan. 28 for a 7:00 PM start.
