GNAC Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Week Report #10

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Victoria Briones, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (So., OH)

Saint Joseph’s (Maine) sophomore Victoria Briones helped the Monks close out the regular season with a 2-1 record. She averaged 3.11 kills and 3.56 digs per set, while hitting .254. After a six-kill, eight-dig showing against Bates, Briones had a major impact in her teams final GNAC tri-match of the regular season. She had a double-double in a three-set sweep of Mitchell, recording 13 kills and 17 digs and followed that up with nine kills and seven digs as the Monks also swept Emannuel.

SETTER OF THE WEEK

Chelsea Simmons, Simmons (Gr., S)

Simmons graduate student Chelsea Simmons averaged 6.89 assists per set this week, while the Sharks went 3-0 to close out the regular season. She also averaged 2.22 kills per set, hitting .432 and had a 3.33 digs per set average. She started off the week with a double-double in 3-0 sweep of Emmanuel. She recorded 21 assists and 12 digs against the Saints, while also putting down eight kills. She followed that up with 22 assists and 10 digs in a GNAC sweep of Johnson & Wales. She wrapped up the regular season with 19 assists, eight kills, and eight digs in a sweep of the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). In addition to those numbers, she also had at least two blocks per match, tying her single-game high with four against the Blue Jays.

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Alyssa Moore, Elms (Sr., L)

Senior libero Alyssa Moore was impressive on the defensive side of the court for Elms this week. She averaged 6.31 digs per set, recording double-digit digs in every match. She opened the week with 28 digs in a four-setter against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). She had two more 20-plus dig showings to close out the week with 29 against Anna Maria and 25 against Rivier as the Blazers split a GNAC tri-match to close out the regular season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Samiyah Cabrera, Elms (Fy., OH)

Elms first-year Samiyah Cabrera finished off her first collegiate season with a strong showing. She recorded three double-doubles this week, averaging 3.38 kills and 3.46 digs per set. She started the week with 17 kills and 11 digs in a four-set setback against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) before picking up a victory over Anna Maria with 13 kills and 11 digs. She closed out the week with 14 kills and 23 digs in a five-setter against Rivier.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Jaylen Holman, Elms - Dished out double-digit assists in all three of the conference matches, including two double-double games. This included the USJ match with 29 assists and 16 digs, finishing out the week against Rivier with 36 assists and 26 digs.

Bliss Brown, Mitchell -  Averaged 4.60 kills per set, while averaging 3.00 digs per set. After tallying eight kills and 13 digs in non-conference match against Western Connecticut, delivered a standout performance in GNAC tri-match at Emmanuel. Recorded 24 kills and 14 digs in loss to the Saints. Followed this up by notching 14 kills against Saint Joseph's (Maine), posting a 4.67 kills per set average.

Ahnasia Mckinney, Regis - Dished out 30 assists and collected 11 digs for a double-double against Rivier, plus she earned six kills and three block assists. Then picked up 22 assists and four kills against Colby-Sawyer, then she played just the first set against Albertus Magnus and ended up with eight assists and two digs.

Abby Jerome, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Averaged 6.11 digs per set and delivered six service aces in a 2-1 week for Saint Joseph's (Maine).

Claire Conners, Simmons - Hit.408 over the three match week and guided Simmons to a 3-0 record. Was flawless from the floor as she posted a .519 attack percentage with 14 kills on 27 attempts against Emmanuel. Later in week, notched 12 kills on 23 attempts for a .435 attack percentage and two block assists against JWU.
