GNAC Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Week Report #6

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Peyton Oliver, Johnson & Wales (Sr., OH)

Senior Peyton Oliver continued her strong play on the attack, recording back-to-back 19-kill showings in conference play. She opened the week with a double-double in a four-set setback against Regis on Wednesday (Oct. 4). She had 14 digs to go along with her 19 kills, plus added two blocks and two aces. She then had a 19-kill, six-dig performance against Colby-Sawyer as the Wildcats took down Colby-Sawyer, 3-1, on Saturday (Oct. 7). She also had five aces and a block against the Chargers. She hit .289 for the week and averaged 2.50 digs per set.

SETTER OF THE WEEK

Brooke Patnode, Colby-Sawyer (Jr., S)

Junior setter Brooke Patnode averaged 7.17 assists per set this week as Colby-Sawyer played to a 2-1 record. She opened the week with back-to-back double-doubles that featured more than 30 assists each. In a three-set sweep of Salem State on Wednesday (Oct. 4), she had 32 assists and 15 digs. She followed that up with 35 helpers and 11 pickups in a five-set GNAC win over Norwich on Friday (Oct. 6). She concluded the week with a 19-assist, nine-dig performance against Johnson & Wales on Saturday (Oct. 7). She averaged 2.92 digs per set this week.

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Audra Fontes, Colby-Sawyer (Jr., L)

Junior libero Audra Fontes helped Colby-Sawyer to a 2-1 record this week, by contributing 6.00 digs per set. She picked up double-digit attacks in each match, starting with 22 in a 3-0 sweep of Salem State. She also had six assists and three aces against the Vikings. She then had 39 digs in a five-set win over Norwich which set a new program record. She closed out the week with 11 digs in a four-set setback against Johnson & Wales.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Samiyah Cabrera, Elms (Fy., OH)

Elms first-year Samiyah Cabrera had two solid performances this week for the Blazers, starting with a strong double-double in a four-setter against Westfield State. She had 19 kills and 24 digs in that match for a double-double. She also had three aces and two blocks in that match. She followed that up with another double-digit kill showing with 12 against Simmons. She had six digs against the Sharks and added a block as well.

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Shalese Gordon, Albertus Magnus - Averaged 6.20 assists per set, including 34 against Anna Maria, as Albertus Magnus went 2-1 on the week. Also contributed 1.20 kills and 2.40 digs per set.

Paula Tanguilig, Emmanuel - Averaged 4.40 digs per set while adding six total service aces, helping Emmanuel to a 3-0 week with wins over Rivier, Anna Maria, and Albertus Magnus.

Juliana Medini, Lasell - Averaged 2.17 kills and 2.00 blocks per set during a 2-0 week for Lasell. She also hit at a .500 clip in the two 3-0 sweeps.

Allison Blum, Mitchell - Notched three double-doubles for Mitchell across three games. Finished the week with 48 kills and 56 digs, 34 kills and 39 digs in conference play. Posted 14 kills and 17 digs in non-conference match against Framingham State. In a GNAC tri-match, recorded 17 kills against both Lasell and New England College. Added 10 defensive digs against the Lasers and then a season-high 29 digs against the Pilgrims. Averaged 4.25 kills per set and 4.88 digs per set in conference play.

Ahnasia Mckinney, Regis - Helped Regis to a 2-0 week, starting with 20 assists, three kills, and six digs in a win over Johnson & Wales. Collected 15 assists and seven kills, plus she hit .385 in the match, against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.).

Chelsea Simmons, Simmons - Paced the offense with 6.33 assists per set and registered a pair of digs against Elms.
