GNAC Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Week Report #8

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Majo Pelaez, Albertus Magnus (So., OH)

Sophomore outside hitter Majo Pelaez had an impressive week for Albertus Magnus, averaging 4.50 kills and 3.20 digs per set, while also swinging at a .233 rate in three matches. She had double-digit kills in all three matches, including 21 in a four-setter against New England College. She also produced two double-dobules, one against the Pilgrims as she added 10 digs to her total. She also had 12 kills and 14 digs against Saint Joseph’s (Maine).

SETTER OF THE WEEK

Chelsea Simmons, Simmons (Gr., S)

Graduate student Chelsea Simmons not only averaged 5.27 assists per set this week, but also added 2.36 kills and 2.64 digs to her performance as Simmons went 3-0. Her top showing of the week came in a five-set victory over Lasell in which she produced her fourth triple-double of the season with 11 kills, 26 assists, and 14 digs. She had a double-double earlier in the week with 14 helpers and 12 ups in a sweep of Dean. Aside from those impressive numbers, Simmons also had nearly a block per set, averaging 0.91.

 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Sofia Pawlusik, Rivier (Jr., L)

Sofia Pawlusik was a defensive force for Rivier this week, averaging 6.33 digs per set. She had double-digit pickups in all three of the Raiders matches, including 20-plus-dig showings against both Norwich and Vermont State Castleton. This week’s performance was also personally notable as Pawlusik eclipsed the 1000 career digs mark.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Hannah Pridgeon, Simmons (Fy., OH)

Simmons first-year Hannah Pridgeon made contributions on both sides of the net for Sharks as they played to a 3-0 week. She averaged 2.27 kills and 2.36 digs per set. She got better as the week went on, starting with seven kills and seven digs against Dean before producing a nine-kill, seven-dig performance against Lasell. She concluded the week, barely missing a double-double with nine kills and 12 digs against Clark.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Shalese Gordon, Albertus Magnus - Averaged 7.20 assists per set as Albertus Mangus dropped three matches. Also averaged 2.80 digs per set.

Audra Fontes, Colby-Sawyer - Averaged 5.55 digs per set, including a 34-dig performance in a five-set loss to Saint Joseph's (Maine).

Brooke Patnode, Colby-Sawyer - Had double-digit assist numbers in all three matches for Colby-Sawyer. Added 18 and 13 digs, respectively agaisnt Saint Joseph's (Maine) and Bates for a pair of double-doubles.

Alyssa Moore, Elms - Produced double-digit dig performances agianst both Dean and Regis to averaged 5.33 digs pers set on the week.

Juliana Medini, Lasell - Contibuted both offensively and defensively this week for Lasell, averaging 2.43 kills per set on .343 hitting, while also producing more than a block per set at 1.21.

Bliss Brown, Mitchell - Led Mitchell to a straight set victory in its lone match of the week, recording 14 kills and 13 digs against Anna Maria.

Julia Lent, Mitchell - Recorded 16 digs, averaging 5.33 digs per set, as the Mitchell took down Anna Maria in straight sets in their lone match of the week. Added four assists and one kills.

Ahnasia Mckinney, Regis - Averaged 6.29 assists, 1.93 kills, and 2.36 digs per set this week as Regis went 3-1. Recorded a double-double agianst Dean with 21 assists and 12 digs and followed that up with a triple-double against Elms with 11 kills, 21 assists, and 10 digs.

Lily Sills, Rivier - Swung at impressive .460 rate for Rivier, averaging 3.11 kills per set in a 2-1 week.

Victoria Briones, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Averaged 2.50 kills and 4.67 digs per set for the week. Collected two double-doubles with a 12-kill, 17-dig showing against New England College and a 10-kill, 14 dig performance against Albertus Mangus.

Kailyn Chamberlin, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Averaged 7.57 assists per set in a GNAC tri-match sweep on Saturday. Posted three kills, three aces, eight digs, and 26 assists in a 3-1 victory over New England College and delivered two kills, one ace, four digs, and 27 assists in a 3-0 triumph over Albertus Magnus.
