GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 7

( FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 11 - 17 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lily Blodgett, Rivier (Jr., OH - Dunstable, Mass.) - The Raiders remained perfect last week in GNAC play with three road victories behind 4.40 kills and 0.80 blocks per set from Blodgett, who also hit .312. After 19 kills (.372) and four blocks in a four-set win at Elms, she totaled 17 kills (.316) and three blocks in a sweep at Emmanuel. She also had eight kills against Colby-Sawyer. 
 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Kianna Lozada, Elms (Senior, L) - The senior averaged an impressive 5.46 digs per set in a 3-1 week for the Blazers, their only loss coming at the hands of Rivier in four sets.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Claire Conners, Simmons (Sophomore, OH - Albany, Calif.) - Conners posted a .378 attack percentage with 35 kills on 74 attempts and just seven errors to lead Simmons to a 2-1 week, including a pair of conference wins against Colby-Sawyer and Emmanuel. Early in the week against the Chargers, she averaged 4.33 kills per set as she tallied 13 kills on 20 attempts. Conners closed out the week leading the Sharks, hitting .400 with 13 kills on 25 attempts against the neighboring rival Saints. 

HONOR ROLL

Alanys Cruz Diaz, Elms (Senior, OPP) - The senior averaged 4.15 kills and 2.46 digs per set while hitting .246 in a 3-1 week.
 
Peyton Oliver, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., MB - Ramsey, N.J.) - In two matches this week, Peyton Oliver totaled 18 kills with 11 coming in a victory over the Albertus Magnus Falcons in a conference tilt. Against the Falcons, she added one service ace, one block, and seven digs, finishing the match with 12.5 points. Over the two matches, she averaged 3.00 kills per set with 1.67 digs per set and .33 blocks per set, totaling 20 points. 
 
Kathryn Farnum, Norwich (Sr., OH - North Andover, Mass.) - Farnum lead the Cadets this past week with 35 total kills in nine sets, for a 3.89 kill per set average. She also collected 2.33 digs per set while adding three blocks in three matches.
 
Emily Fagundo, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., S - Dover, N.H.) - Fagundo averaged 9.89 assists and 2.22 digs per set in a 3-0 week in which the Pride won all nine sets played. She started the week with 36 assists against Colby-Sawyer, averaging 12 per set, plus she picked up two kills, a service ace, four digs, and a block assist. Fagundo finished with 34 assists (11.3 per set) in the Pride's victory over USJ, notching her first double-double of the season as she also collected 12 digs (4.0 per set). Against SJC, she earned 19 assists and four digs as the Pride swept the Monks. For the season, Fagundo is now fourth in the GNAC with 8.19 assists per set and is just three assists away from reaching 800 career assists. 
 
Shannon Carey, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Jr., MH - Bayport, N.Y.) - Carey helped power the Blue Jays to a 2-1 week, including helping USJ secure its first GNAC triumph of the 2021 season in a thrilling five-set victory over Saint Joseph's College. Carey averaged 4.15 kills per set on the week with a stellar .331 hitting percentage. She also chipped in defensively averaging 1.92 digs per set for the Blue Jays. 
 
Julia MacKenzie, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Jr., OH - Wallingford, Conn.) - Averaged 4.77 digs per set in a 2-1 week for the Blue Jays.
