GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 4

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 20 - 26 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Valerie Whalen, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., M/OH - Stoughton, Mass.) - Whalen was nearly flawless offensively for the Pride, making just one attack error in 37 attempts over the past week as she finished the week with 3.67 kills and 0.83 blocks per set along with a .563 hitting percentage. She led Regis with nine kills in each Saturday match, also collecting three total blocks against Anna Maria and two block assists against Emmanuel. Whalen is tied for fourth in the GNAC with a .308 hitting percentage. 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Sofia Pawlusik, Rivier (So., LB - Burnt Hills, NY) - Pawlusik helped the Raiders to a 2-1 week to help Rivier to a 2-0 start in the GNAC. Pawlusik was the glue to the defense, averaging 4.50 digs per set, including 20 in a five-set thrilling win over Simmons and 19 (6.33 per set) in a sweep of USJ. She also registered 0.92 service aces per set.
 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sabine Milton, Lasell (Fr., Opp - San Mateo, Calif.) - Milton averaged 3.82 kills, 2.45 digs, and 0.73 aces per set with a .380 attack percentage in a 2-1 week for the Lasers. In Lasell's GNAC match Saturday against Elms, she posted a double-double of 17 kills and 20 digs with a .394 attack percentage. She also made 15 kills (.435), six aces, and three blocks Thursday in a non-conference win over UMass Dartmouth and she tallied 10 kills (.304), two aces, and two blocks in a non-conference triumph Saturday over Fisher College.

HONOR ROLL

Anna Allen, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, S - Los Angeles, Calif.) - Allen recorded her 2,000th career assist during her 39 assists against Northern Vermont-Johnson. 
 
Audra Fontes, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, DS/L - Fresno, Calif.) - Fontes averaged 5.00 digs per set n a five-set win over Northern Vermont-Johnson. 
 
Jaylianne Ramos Figueroa, Elms (Senior, OH/OPP) - The senior averaged 3.00 kills (.190 percentage), 1.00 aces and 3.86 digs per set in a 4-0 week for the Blazers.
 
Masina Tupea, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fy., OH - Aiea, Hawaii) - In two matches, Tupea averaged 3.57 kills, 0.86 service aces amd 1.43 digs per set on a .302 hitting percentage. In a victory at Norwich, Tupea nabbed 16 kills, averaging 5.33 per set in the sweep. In a five-set setback at UMass Boston, she had nine kills, five aces and four digs. 
 
Laura Farnum, Norwich (So., DS - North Andover, Mass.) - Serving as the Libero in Friday's match against GNAC powerhouse Johnson & Wales, Farnum recorded an assist while helping out on the defensive end with 17 digs in the three-set contest.
  
Kamdyn Tenorio, Regis (Mass.) (Fy., OH/DS - Irvine, Calif.) - Tenorio averaged 2.14 kills and 4.14 digs per set in a 3-0 week, as the Pride extended their winning streak to eight. In just one set against Lesley, she earned three service aces. On Saturday, she nearly notched a double-double against Anna Maria with nine kills and nine digs. She then kept Emmanuel from scoring with a team-high 19 digs to go along with five kills and two service aces. She leads the team with 122 digs and is second on the squad with 66 kills. 
   
Jayla Parnell, Simmons (Sophomore, OH - Oregon City. Ore.) - Parnell guided Simmons to a 2-1 week, which included a pair of 3-0 sweeps against Westfield State and GNAC foe University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). Against the Blue Jays on Saturday, Parnell posted a .438 attack percentage, tallying nine kills on 16 attempts with just two errors in addition to 11 digs. In their first match of the day Saturday, Parnell helped Simmons force a fifth set against GNAC rival Rivier, where she led the Sharks with 18 kills (3.60 per set) to go along with seven digs, four aces and two total blocks. Over the course of the three game week, she was steady from the service line registering 10 aces and is currently third amongst conference leaders in aces (27).
