GNAC Swimming & Diving Report: Week 3

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Sarah Manjikian, Simmons (Jr., Belmont, Mass.)

The junior won both of her diving events with scores that qualified her for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association Championship in February. The diver topped the field by over 37 points to earn a victory on the one-meter board with a score of 209.40 against visiting Westfield State and later added a win on the three-meter board with a tally of 200.30 points to win by nearly 15 points on October 26. Both marks are top-20 scores thus far this season in Division III. 

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

GianCarlos Banrey, Regis (So., Roslindale, Mass.)

Banrey won three individual events during Regis' dual meet against Bridgewater State Saturday. He finished first in the 50 backstroke by over three seconds with a time of 26.15 seconds, in the 100 butterfly in 55.19 seconds as he held on for a 3/10ths of a second margin of victory, and in the 50 butterfly in 23.80 seconds. Banrey also posted the fastest 50 fly split of 23.47 seconds in the 200 medley relay, helping his relay squad finish second with an overall time of 1:47.90.

WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Katelyn Quinlan, Simmons (Fr., Haverhill, Mass.)

The first year scored 12 points for the Sharks in a 220-77 victory over visiting Westfield State University on October 26. The rookie won her first collegiate race with a time of 33.67 to win the 50-yard breaststroike by over a second and added a third-place effort in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:14.25. Quinlan also helped Simmons win the 200-yard medley relay, swimming the breaststroke leg of the race to contribute to a winning mark of 1:59.05 to open the meet.

 

MEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kaleo Kihleng, Colby-Sawyer (Fr., Pohnpei)

At Norwich on Saturday, Kaleo Kihleng led the Chargers by winning the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 24.73. He added a second place in the 100 freestyle at 50.23.


WEEK 3 HONOR ROLL

Megan Duffy, Norwich (So., Shelton, Conn.) - Duffy claimed victories in the women's 100 yard breaststroke (1:12.07), the 200 yard IM (2:17.81) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.97) in a dual meet against Colby-Sawyer on Saturday. Duffy also swam a leg on the winning 400 yard medley relay team. Her efforts helped the Cadets top the Chargers 140-36.

Kyleigh Boatwright, Regis (So., Roseville, Calif.) - Boatwright led the Pride to victories over Bridgewater State and Eastern Connecticut State Saturday. First, she almost rallied to win the 200 freestyle, but missed by just 7/100ths of a second with a second-place time of 2:07.75. She did finish first in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.75 and in the 100 individual medley in 1:07.39, establishing a margin of more than one second in each victory. Finally, she anchored the 200 freestyle relay that finished second with an overall time of 1:49.39, posting a 50 free split of 27.70 seconds.

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 13 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Founded in 1995, the GNAC annually sponsors and administers 22 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunity and community involvement in an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
