GNAC Swimming & Diving Report: Week 2

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Aine Scholand, Simmons (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.)

The senior won both of her individual events and helped the Sharks win a relay on the road vs. Division I Merrimack College on October 19. Scholand dominated the distance events, winning the 1000-yard freestyle by 19 seconds with a time of 11:12.23 and added a first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:29.52 to win by over seven seconds. The New Mexico native swam the lead leg of the Sharks winning 200-yard freestyle relay, helping Simmons turn in a time of 1:45.53.

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Joseph Clark, Norwich (Jr., Acworth, Ga.)

At Saturday's tri-meet against St. Michael's and host Keene State, Clark won the men's 200 yard freestyle in 1:54.05. He went on to take second place in the men's 50 yard backstroke in 28.11.

WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Meg Driscoll, Simmons (Fr., Haverhill, Mass.)

The first year won both of her individual events in her collegiate debut and helped the Sharks post a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay at Division-I Merrimack College on October 19. Driscoll dominated the breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard race with a time of 1:14.87 and added a victory in the 200-yard event with a mark of 2:41.11. Driscoll swam the breaststroke clip of the 200-yard medley relay for Simmons.

MEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Robert Wood, Regis (Fr., Cathedral City, Calif.)

Wood continues to establish himself as one of Regis' top swimmers in his first collegiate season. At Saturday's Roger Williams Invitational, he first anchored the 200 medley relay that finished fourth, posting a 50 free split of 24.51 seconds. Wood then finished ninth in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.72, 10th in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.91, and 13th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.39. He also anchored the 400 freestyle relay that finished second, posting a 100 free split of 52.64 seconds.


WEEK 2 HONOR ROLL

Nikki Ansley, Norwich (Fr., Berlin, Germany) - In a tri-meet against St. Michael's and host Keene State on Saturday, Ansley took the top spot in the women's 200 yard freestyle in 2:04.53. Ansley went on to win the women's 100 yard freestyle race in 56.26 and the women's 500 yard freestyle in 5:45.64.

Jack Brennan, Norwich (Fr., Hopkinton, Mass.) - At Saturday's tri-match against St. Michael's and host Keene State, Brennan took second place in the men's one meter diving contest with 197.63. Brennan went on to finish second in his first-ever three-meter diving contest, finishing with 190.20 points

Alexa Lancisi, Regis (So., Milford, Mass.) - Lancisi earned Regis' best individual finish at the Roger Williams Invitational Saturday. First, she swam the third leg of the victorious 200 medley relay, posting a 50 fly split of 28.75 seconds. Lancisi then finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.65 as well as fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.30, a collegiate-best mark for Lancisi. She helped her team to a third place finish in the invitational.
