AMCATS Celebrate Senior Day

PAXTON, Mass. (10.22.11) – On a day that the Lady AMCATS donned pink t-shirts as part of their Kick Cancer campaign and celebrated Senior Day the Anna Maria College women's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision to Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Emmanuel College at AMCAT field. Emmanuel improves to 10-7-2 (6-6-1 GNAC) while the AMCATS remain winless at 0-18 (0-13 GNAC).

Graduating seniors Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.), Alexa Hare (North Brookfield, Mass.) and Ashley Maryyanek (Boylston, Mass.) were all honored before the game.

The Saints took a 2-0 lead in the first half, a quick goal by Melanie Hoffman (Topsham, Maine) at the 3:34 mark gave the Saints the lead for good. Brittany Ridge (Portland, Maine) picked up the assist on the goal. Sophomore Bethany Avila (Swansea, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season in the 22nd minute.

Goaltender Amanda Hevy kept AMC in the game, making several key saves throughout the half. Saints' Mariana McCormack (Bristol, Conn.)  had a break-a-way halfway thru the first when Hevy came out of her net to challenge and made an incredible save.

AMC's junior Erica Neugarten (Natick, Mass.) scored in the 55th minute to make it a 3-1 game. Neugarten scored after freshman Jordyn Beaulieu's (Miford, Mass.) shot went off the left post and Erica drove a shot low and outside past Emmanuel's goalkeeper Jackie Murray (Saugus, Mass.).

Emmanuel scored four more in the second half. Candace Scanlon (Millbury, Mass.) scored shortly into the second half, Amanda Roberts (Hudson, Mass.) also tallied and freshman Cate Taras (Belchertown, Mass.) had two late goals.

Anna Maria returns to action on Monday, October 24th when travel to Newbury College for their season finale at 4:00 pm.
