
WINTHROP, Mass. – For the fourth straight season, Colby-Sawyer will be entering the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Tennis Conference Tournament as the top seed. The Chargers clinched the top spot in a tie-breaking match on Saturday (Oct. 5) against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), defeating the Blue Jays, 8-1. They finished their regular season 4-0 in GNAC play (6-1 overall).
Colby-Sawyer, the three-time defending GNAC Women’s Tennis Tournament Champion, will be looking to make it four in a row in 2024. This is the fourth season in a row that Colby-Sawyer finished conference play undefeated.
Following behind them, the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) finished GNAC play at 3-1 (8-4 overall) to capture the second seed in this year’s tournament.
Simmons will be the third seed in this year’s tournament after going 2-2 (7-5 overall) in conference play.
Taking the last spot is Albertus Magnus, who defeated Regis on Tuesday (Oct. 8) for the final spot in the last conference regular season match-up to determine this year’s four participants.
The semi-finals start on Oct. 12 with the top-seeded Chargers hosting the Falcons at noon, while the Blue Jays are set host the Sharks at noon as well. The semifinal winners will advance to the GNAC Championship match on Saturday, Oct. 19 with the higher seed in the matchup playing host. The GNAC Tournament Champion will earn the conference's automatic qualifier into the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's' Tennis Championship in the spring.
