Top-Seeded Chargers Claim Fourth Title in a Row

NEW LONDON, N.H. - For the fourth year in a row, the top-seeded Colby-Sawyer Chargers are the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis Champions, defeating the No. 2 seed University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 5-0. With the victory, the Chargers earn the league's automatic qualifier into the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships, which will be held in the spring.

Rapid Recap: 

  • The Chargers swept the doubles, taking a 3-0 lead over the Blue Jays. Sophomore Maria Espinosa Lopez (Merida, Mexico) and senior Isabella Gutierrez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) picked up a convincing 8-1 victory at number two doubles.
  • Gutierrez picked up the fourth point for the Chargers at number four singles winning 6-0, 6-1 while sophomore Payton Dugan (Vincennes, Ind.) would clinch the 5-0 victory for the Chargers at number one singles winning 6-0, 6-3.
  • The all-tournament team consisted of three Chargers, senior Elise Hogan (Duxbury, Mass.), Gutierrez, and Dugan, while Gutierrez also took home tournament MVP.
