WORCESTER, Mass. - Both the Norwich Men's and Women's Teams finished Day One of the 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimming & Diving Championships at the top spot of the team leaderboards. The Cadets put up 172 points on the Men's side while the Women put up 288.
In the Men's competition, Norwich took home gold in all eight events both individually and as a team. Starting with the 200 yard medley relay, the quartet of Martin Adlianitski, Kristian Adlianitski, Adrian Riendeau, and Will Thompson touched the wall with a conference-record setting time of 1:35.30, besting the previous mark set in 2022 by Roger Williams. The four would again capture the victory in the 400 yard medley relay at 3:13.53. Arty Abrams picked up an individual title in the 400 Yard IM at a time of 4:20.40. Kristian Adlianitski picked up a win in the 200 Yard Freestyle at 1:46.44 as his brother Martin followed up with a victory in the 50 Yard Butterfly (23.82). Thompson collected gold in the 100 Yard Breaststroke at 58.73 while Drew Bylow finished at 1:58.19 to earn the gold in the 200 Yard Backstroke. Andrew Clark took home gold in the 1000 yard freestyle for the Cadets (10:08.89).
The University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) finished second on the day as a team with 61 points followed by Regis, who collected 54 to place third.
In the Women's Competition, Norwich had three individual event victories. Alannah Kelliher took gold in the 50 Yard Butterfly at 27.59 while Kylie Farris touched the wall first in the 200 Yard Backstroke, finishing at 2:18.88. Brandy Lewis collected the final victory of the night for the Cadets in the 1000 Yard freestyle, swimming a 11:12.01.
Following closely to Norwich was Simmons, who gained 281 points after a strong first day. The Sharks struck gold in the first finals competition of the night when the quartet of Camelia Hannah, Bee Eckels, Hailey Stuck, and Carli Quinlan finished the 200 yard medley relay at 1:54.09. Quinlan would not only capture a gold medal but also broke her own individual record that was set in last year's championships as she swam a 1:54.43 in the 200 Yard Freestyle, which was .01 seconds better than her previous record (1:54.44). The group of four of Eckels, Stuck, Quinlan, and Isabel Barry-Ruiz finished their night strong in the 400 yard medley relay as they swam a 3:43.64.
Albertus Magnus' Silvia Valeria Avila Estrada finished first in the remaining events individually as she swam a 4:51.72 in the 400 Yard IM and a 1:11.03 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
Regis finished third on the day with 212 points followed by Saint Joseph's (Maine) (152), University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (147), Elms (120) and Albertus Magnus (86) in that order.
Day two of the GNAC Championships features the next nine scoring events counting towards the GNAC title. Additionally, prior to the start of the evening finals session, the conference will recognize its senior competitors with the Senior Recognition Ceremony, starting at 5:55 PM.
