GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 4

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Rah-Rah Thompson, Albertus Magnus (Sr., C - Bridgeport, Conn.)

Thompson recorded a breakout game in the Falcons' 99-90 win over defending MASCAC champion Westfield State last Wednesday evening. The power forward posted her fourth double-double of the season behind a career-high 28 points and 31 rebounds over 39 minutes of action. Thompson shot an impressive 66.7% (10-15 FG, 8-13 FT) from the field to go along with two assists, a steal and a career-best six blocks. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Pam Gonzalez, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., G - Revere, Mass.)

Gonzalez put together another stellar week for the Pride, averaging 16.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals as Regis went 1-2. On Monday in Regis' 20-point win over Wentworth, Gonzalez notched her first career double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds, plus four assists, two steals, and two blocked shots. She followed up on Thursday against Framingham State wit ha career-high 20 points, aided by five three-pointers, including three in the third quarter, to go with six rebounds. She capped the week on Saturday by playing a season-high 38 minutes at Eastern Nazarene, registering 16 points, six boards and three steals. 


WEEK 4 HONOR ROLL

Tianna Sugars, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, C - Oxford, Maine) - Sugars paced the Chargers in a pair of wins, including a home 72-65 victory over the NESCAC's Middlebury, averaging 16.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks as the team improved to 7-1. She began the week with a game-high 18 points, six rebounds and three blocks in the team's 80-55 win at Salem State. Sugars then posted her sixth double-double of the season with an impressive 15 points and 21 rebounds against Middlebury, which marked the Panthers' first loss of the season.

Britney Gallagher, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., G - New City, NY) - Averaged 13.7 ppg, 4.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds in a 2-1 week .... Just missed a double-double with 13 points and 9 assists against Mount Holyoke ....Notched 15 points versus Brandeis.

Loredana D'Agostino, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, F - Broad Brook, Conn.) - D'Agostino averaged 11.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Emmanuel, that included wins over #1 ranked Amherst as well as MIT. The sophomore netted nine points against the Mammoths before adding 13 points and seven boards against the Engineers.

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G - Cambridge, Mass.) - Ramirez-Tejeda averaged 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a 2-0 week for Emmanuel that included road wins over #1 nationally-ranked Amherst out of the NESCAC and MIT from the NEWMAC. She shot an even 50% (18-36) from the floor and was 7-of-11 from the FT line. The senior posted a double-double in the upset win at Amherst, scoring a game-high 25 points (10-20 FG), grabbing 10 boards while also recording three steals and an assist. She followed it up with a game-high 18 points (8-16 FG) and team-best eight rebounds against MIT, adding three assists and a steal. 

Amanda Ortiz, Lasell (Sr., G - Newton, Mass.) - Ortiz averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.0 assists in a 1-1 week for the Lasers, shooting 51.6 percent from the field (16-of-31). She recorded a double-double Thursday in a loss to Mitchell College, putting up 25 points, 13 rebounds and five steals, and she tallied 12 points, five rebounds and four assists in just 21 minutes Saturday in a lopsided victory over Lesley University. 

Cheyenne-Mone Smith, St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., G/F - Wethersfield, Conn.) - Smith led the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week with wins over Bard and Mount Holyoke respectively. She did just about everything in a 63-54 win over Bard (16 PTS, 14 REB, 7 AST, 6 BLK, 5 STL). It was her sixth career double-double and third of the season. A late steal in the backcourt and jumper iced the game with under 2:00 to play. Smith had a solid outing in a road win over Mount Holyoke (15 PTS, 6 REB, 5 STL), averaging a double-double on the week. Smith has had at least three steals in all but one game this season, and her 4.7 steals per game is third in all of Division III. 

Alyson Fillion, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Sophomore, G - Bedford, N.H.) - The sophomore averaged 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week, highlighted by a 19-point, six-board effort in a loss at Bates on Saturday.

Alexis Hackett, Suffolk (Sr., G - Charlton, Mass.) - The senior averaged 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week, highlighted by a 23-point outburst (8-13 FG, 7-11 3PT) to go with 12 boards, three assists, three steals and three blocks in a 75-71 setback at Framingham State.
