GNAC Men's Volleyball Report: Week 2

( FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 20 - 26 )

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ryan Love, Wentworth (Sr., OH/RS - Gaithersburg, Md.)

Love led the Leopard offensive with 37 kills and 2.85 kills per set in a 3-1 week for the Black and Gold. He led the Leopards to triumph over nationally-ranked Wells with 13 kills, and finished day one of the SUNY Poly Invite with 10 kills and .500 hitting (10K-1E-18TA) against Nazareth. Love ended the weekend with 11 kills, and double-digit kills in three of four matches played over the opening weekend while also averaging 1.92 digs per set. 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ian Carlson, Wentworth (So., MH - Parker, Colo.)

Carlson was a force on defense for the Leopards, averaging 1.00 blocks per set with 14 total. In the Leopards' 3-1 triumph over nationally-ranked Wells, he jumped up for seven blocks, including three solos. and followed up with two assisted blocks in a sweep over Nazareth. He ended the week with five stops against St. John Fisher in the Leopards' lone loss of the SUNY Poly Tournament. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Hunter Oshman, Wentworth (Fr., OH - Pennington, N.J.)

Oshman averaged 2.58 kills per set and 1.33 digs per set with 2.58 hitting in the Leopards 3-1 showing to open the season. His first match, which played out to be Wentworth's banner performance of a 3-1 win over #7 Wells, saw him hit .333 with 12 kills alongside eight digs. He followed up with 11 kills and .450 hitting, in WIT's 3-0 sweep over Nazareth. 


WEEK 2 HONOR ROLL

Orlando Plagata, Colby-Sawyer (So, DS - Los Angeles, Calif.) - Plagata led the Chargers with 3.64 kills per set on .239 hitting and picked up 2.82 digs per set in a 2-1 week. In a tough 3-1 road loss at Eastern Nazarene to begin the week, Plagata posted 19 kills and 12 digs. The Chargers then took a pair of matches off NVU-Johnson. Plagata picked up another double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 win and followed with nine kills, eight digs and four aces in the 3-0 second match victory. 

Mike Kokoros, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, OH - Braintree, Mass.) - Kokoros put together back-to-back double-digit kill outings for Emmanuel, opening the year with a season-high 13 kill effort in a 3-2 victory over Eastern Nazarene before adding an 11-kill match against Elms. The junior also picked up a double-double in the win over the Lions, notching 12 digs in the win. He averaged 3.00 kills (.229) and 1.63 digs per set in a 1-1 week.

Jack Pincince, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., OH - South Kingstown, R.I.) - Pincince averaged 3.20 kills and 2.80 digs per set as the Wildcats went 2-2 at the JWU Tip-Off Tourament ... Started the weekend with a career-high 21 kills (5.25 kps) and 12 digs against Baruch ... Notched a 12-kill, 21-dig (career-high) double-double as the Wildcats beat #14 UC Santa Cruz ... Led the team with 8 kills and a .313 hitting percentage in the win over Keuka. 

Pedro Campos, Rivier (Sr, S - Downey, Calif.) - Campos directed the Raider offense to an impressive .345 hitting percentage helping Rivier to a 2-0 week. The senior setter dished out 9.14 assists per set while averaging 1.14 kills per set on a .583 hitting percentage. Campos also chipped in with 1.86 digs and 0.43 service aces per set.
