GNAC Unveils 2022 Indoor Track & Field Major Awards

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WINTHROP, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is pleased to announce its major award and All-Sportsmanship individual winners for the 2021-22 season, as announced on Friday.

Suffolk University took home three major student-athlete awards, headlined by Rams senior Matyas Csiki-Fejer, while head coach Will Feldman was voted the GNAC Coach of the Year for both genders.

Csiki-Fejer qualified and participated in the 3000 at NCAA Division III National Championships, the only GNAC Champion to run at NCAAs, finishing ninth at NCAAs in the 3000, just seconds away from being an All-American. He was also GNAC Champion in the mile and 3000. He is the only student-athlete in GNAC history to capture the mile and 3000 crowns and displaced his own meet records (from 2020) in both events. In the mile, he paced the 18-runner field and crossed the finish line in 4:24.08. In the 3000, coasted to a first-place finish, 8:59.39 ? Member of the GNAC Champion Distance Medley Relay Team.

Suffolk's Amanda Walden and Caitlyn Filloramo took home 2022 GNAC Women's Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Year honors, respectively. Walden qualified and competed at regionals, the only individual Ram to do so. At GNACs, she was runner-up in the 60 and 200, respectively, and was a part of the GNAC Champion 4x400 relay team. Meanwhile Filloramo was the GNAC Champion in weight throw with a 12.63-meter toss, and narrowly missed the podium in the shot put with a fourth-place performance behind a 9.72-meter toss.

Colby-Sawyer College senior Alex Kusnarowis was voted the GNAC Men's Field Athlete of the Year. The team captain was the GNAC shotput champion, scoring 10 points for the Chargers. On top of that, he was fourth overall in the weight throw to individually account for 14 total points, helping secure the runner-up team finish at the second-ever GNAC meet and first since February 2020.

Lastly, taking home GNAC Rookie of the Year honors were Colby-Sawyer's Dylan Flewelling and Emmanuel College's AJ Godios.

Flewelling continued his banner rookie season, as he also placed first at the 2021 GNAC Cross Country meet to win GNAC Runner/Rookie of the Year accolades back in October. He started the GNAC indoor meet off by placing third overall in the 5k and earning all-conference honors in the event. He then came back and ran the mile placing 6th and then came back yet again racing the 3k and placed 4th. He individually scored 17 points for the Chargers in their runner-up showing at GNACs.

Godios was phenomenal at the GNAC Indoor Championship, posting wins in the long jump, 200m and 400m events while finishing second in the 60m dash and fourth in the High Jump to earn a total of 42 individual points, a new EC program record at the Indoor Championships. A two-sport athlete (women's basketball), the sprinter's 60m prelim time of 8.11 seconds is a new EC program record while the 400m time of 1:00.43 was just shy of the program record (59.15).

The 2022 GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, featuring Colby-Sawyer, Emmanuel, Lasell, Regis, and Saint Joseph's of Maine, will take place on Sunday, May 1 at Colby-Sawyer in New London, N.H.
