GNAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week Report #5

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kelvin Cortez, Albertus Magnus (Gr., M)

Graduate Student midfielder Kelvin Cortez had a great offensive week for Albertus Magnus. On Wednesday (Sept. 27), Cortez assisted on two goals for the Falcons to defeat non-conference opponent Westfield State 4-0. Then, on Saturday (Sept. 30), he scored twice in a 2-1 victory over Regis. Cortez is currently second in the conference in assists with four and third in points with 14.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Nicolas Lanza, Norwich (Jr., GK)

Junior goalkeeper Nicolas Lanza had a great week at goal for Norwich. He registered a clean sheet with four saves in a 2-0 victory over Regis on Wednesday (Sept. 27). Then, Lanza collected two saves in a 2-1 victory over Rivier. Lanza is currently fourth in the conference in shutouts with three on the season.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Emmanuel Ofori, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (So., F)

Sophomore forward Emmanuel Ofori was instrumental offensively for the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a 2-0 week. He scored once against Lasell on Wednesday (Sept. 27) and then twice on Saturday (Sept. 30) against Emmanuel. He currently leads the conference in goals scored with seven and is second in points with 15.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

David Lucero, Albertus Magnus - Compiled a 2-0 week in net, producing a 0.50 goals-against average in wins over Westfield State and Regis.

Sean Doherty, Dean - Scored two goals for the Bulldogs in a 4-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday.

Aidan Bagley, Johnson & Wales - Scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Emmanuel and collected an assist in a 2-0 win against New England College.

Nathan Statires, Norwich - Converted a penalty kick to put Norwich up 2-0 against Regis on Wednesday (Sept. 27). Tallied a brace including a game-tying goal directly off a free kick and the game-winner immediately out of the halftime break against Rivier on Saturday (Sept. 30).

Gus Ford, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Scored two goals and added an assist in a pair of conference wins for the Monks last week. The junior forward netted a PK goal and assisted on the game-winner in a 2-0 triumph over NEC on Wednesday and opened the scoring in a 2-1 victory at Elms on Saturday.

Michael Torres, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Paced the USJ offense during a perfect 2-0-0 week for the Blue Jays, recording five points off one goal and two assists. Started the week by dishing out an assist during the 4-1 victory at Lasell. Rounded out his week by scoring a goal and recording two assists in the 5-2 victory against Emmanuel.
