FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thongsythavong collects major
honor for second consecutive year

WINTHROP, Mass. – Norwich University senior forward Joseph Thongsythavong has been selected as the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, as voted upon by the GNAC's 13 head coaches.

A unanimous selection, Thongsythavong set the new Cadets record for career goals (60) late in the fall, leading the GNAC in both goals (21) and points (52) on the 2022 campaign, and was also named Division III United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week back on October 26.

Sophomore teammate Kam Jorgenson was voted the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year after NU allowed just seven goals in its 12 conference games.

Saint Joseph's College of Maine senior Mike Sheridan earned GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors after garnering the First Team GK spot, as the Monks netminder posted a 0.79 goals-against average overall with a .857 save percentage in league play. Meanwhile, fellow goalkeeper and freshman David Lucero from Albertus Magnus College was voted All-GNAC Third Team along with GNAC Rookie of the Year accolades.

First-year Lasell University head coach Jared Lewis was voted the 2022 GNAC Coach of the Year by his peers, as the leader of the Lasers guided the program to the No. 7 seed in the GNAC Tournament, where it fell to second-seeded Johnson & Wales University (RI) late in their quarterfinal matchup, 2-1

From GNAC champion University of Saint Joseph (CT), which captured its first-ever conference crown Saturday evening at JWU, the Blue Jays saw Michael Torres named to the First Team, while forwards DeAnte Anderson and Dane Stephens received Second Team honors.
