GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 3

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jahmerikah Green-Younger, Albertus Magnus (Sr., G - Norwalk, Conn.)

Green-Younger led Albertus to a 2-0 record this past week, as he paced the team with 23.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. The senior shot 54.8% (17-31 FG, 7-15 3PT, 6-7 FT) overall and turned it over just twice while averaging 33.5 minutes per game. He opened the week by pouring in 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including the game-winning layup with one second left, to guide the Falcons past Keene State, 83-81, on Tuesday evening. Then on Sunday, Green-Younger scored 22 to go with three boards and five assists to lead Albertus to a 76-63 victory over Williams at home. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Cam Wilkins, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., G - Taunton, Mass.)

Wilkins was one of Regis' top players last week, averaging 20.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting a stellar 83.3% (15-18) and going a perfect 10-for-10 from the FT line in a pair of setbacks. On Tuesday against Framingham State, he missed just one shot en route to 28 points (11-12 FG, 6-6 FT) and five boards in 26 minutes of action, and the perfect FT performance was the 11th by a Regis player in program history with at least six attempts. On Sunday on the road at RIC, he had 12 points (4-6 FG, 4-4 FT) and five rebounds in his first career collegiate start. Wilkins has now made 15 consecutive FT attempts over his last three games.


WEEK 3 HONOR ROLL

Marc Trinidad, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., F - Bronx, N.Y.) - In just 20.0 minutes per contest, Trinidad averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 53.8% (14-26) in an 0-2 week. On Tuesday, he finished with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists in an 87-77 setback to Framingham State. He nearly double-doubled on Sunday on the road in just 15 minutes of action versus RIC, scoring 19 points – 15 of which came in the second half – to go with nine rebounds (seven coming after halftime). Trinidad has now reached double figures in scoring in all six games so far this season.

Tyree Mitchell, St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., F - East Hartford, Conn.) - Mitchell had a breakout week, helping power the Blue Jays to a pair of wins during Thanksgiving week and improve USJ to 3-2 on the year. The 6-4 guard averaged 16.5 points and 2.5 assists in just 19.0 minutes of action per contest, shooting an absurd 81.3% (13-16). He had 16 points (6-8 FG) in a 94-80 win over Salve Regina on Tuesday before registering 17 points (7-8 FG) and four assists in a 96-57 blowout win against Lesley on Saturday. 

Jack Casale, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Jr., G - Portland, Maine) - Casale posted a pair of double-doubles in an 0-2 week, averaging 25.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 53.1% (17-32 FG, 7-17 3PT, 9-13 FT) overall. The junior guard became the 42nd member of the Monks' 1,000-Point Club in a loss to UMaine-Farmington on Tuesday, registering 17 points and 10 boards before netting 33 points (11-20 FG, 3-8 3PT, 8-10 FT) versus Southern Maine on Sunday.
