Lasell Captures 2008 Men's Basketball Championship

Boston, Mass. - Second seeded Lasell College (20-8) rode the scoring and rebounding of
Tournament MVP Jose Guitian (Jr., Miami, Fla.) to take the Great Northeast Athletic
Conference title with an 86-72 victory over top seeded Emerson College (24-4).  Guitian
scored 26 points on 10 of 13 shooting, including 3 of 5 from three point range, and he
pulled in 11 rebounds.
 
In addition to Guitian, Lasell had two other 20 point scorers, Brad Caravoulias (Jr.,
Dracut, Mass.) dropped in 21, and Jamie Crawford (Sr., Coral Springs, Fla.) pitched in
20.  Crawford also added 12 rebounds.
 
Jeremy Shannon (So., Lowell, Mass.) led Emerson with 26 points. Ben Chase (Sr.,
Newburyport, Mass.) and Bryan Rouse (So., East Greenwich, R.I.) each had 14 for
Emerson.
 
Joining Tournament MVP Guitain on the GNAC all-tournament team were teammates
Crawford and Dwayne Powell (Sr., Lauderdale Lakes, FL). For Emerson, Shannon and
Rouse were All-Tournament Team picks. Other All-Tournament Team members included
Levi Smith (Jr., Tulsa, OK) of Emmanuel and Alberto Rue (So., Jamaica Plain, MA) of
St. Joe's Maine.
 
With the win, Lasell earns the GNAC's Automatic bid to the NCAA Division III
Championship Tournament. Pairings will be announced on Monday.
