GNAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Week Report #9

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Drea Chin, New England College (Gr., MF)

Graduate Student Drea Chin exploded for 13 points for the Pilgrims this past week (six goals and an assist), leading New England College to a 2-0 week in conference play. Chin scored twice in a road victory over Regis and followed up with a four goal, one assist effort in another road win over Elms, playing a huge part in New England College's six game winning streak. Entering the final week of the regular season, Chin ranks tied for first in assists (10) and eighth in total points (30).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Madison Young, Johnson & Wales (Sr. D)

Senior Madison Young backstopped the Wildcats to a pair of shutout victories to lock up the No. 1 seed in the GNAC Tournament for the third-consecutive season. The Wildcats allowed just two shots against Anna Maria and did not allow a penalty corner on Tuesday before holding Regis to just two shots and one penalty corner on Senior Day. JWU enters the final conference contest having allowed just five goals in 11 GNAC contests.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Abby Delgado, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., GK)

Senior Abby Delgado had a great performance in net for the Blue Jays in a huge conference victory over Colby-Sawyer. The senior stopped 11 shots at the net, one of which was a penalty stroke shot attempt, while only allowing one goal in a 4-1 victory. Delgado is currently third in the conference in total goals against, only conceding 12.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kaitlin Trudeau, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., F/M)

First-year Kaitlin Trudeau provided timely offense in a huge win for the Blue Jays against Colby-Sawyer this past week. Trudeau collected five points and accounted for three of the Blue Jays' four goals as she found the back of the net twice and collected an assist in the process.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Emily Hunt, Elms - Collected 41 saves on the week for the Blazers.

Zofia Bangs, Johnson & Wales - Racked up three goals and an assist for seven points in two conference victories to lock up the No. 1 seed for the upcming GNAC Field Hockey Tournament.

Courtney Tello, Lasell - Collected two shutout victories with five saves.

Kassidy Collins, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Collected 14 saves in a 1-1 week, posting a .875 save percentage.

Emilia Elko, Simmons - Collected a goal and an assist while anchoring the Sharks to their seventh team shutout on the season. 

Sydney Gonyea, Simmons - Collected four goals and three assists on the week, going 2-0 in conference play. The senior collected 11 points on the week, seven of them came against Dean.
