GNAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Week Report #8

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Megan Salsinha, Johnson & Wales (Gr., F/M)

Graduate Student Megan Salsinha came up clutch for the Wildcats this past week, leading them to a 2-0 week in conference play. She started the week off, scoring a goal in the fourth period by forcing overtime in a battle for the top spot in the standings with then-undefeated (in GNAC play) Simmons. Her heroic efforts led to a double-overtime shootout in which the Wildcats beat the Sharks 3-2. The grad student followed up with the game-winning assist in overtime in a huge victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine). 

 

 CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cristina Manzi, New England College (Jr., F/M)

Junior Cristina Manzi delivered two huge game-winning goals for the Pilgrims as her heroic efforts late in two conference wins this past week. Manzi scored a game-winning goal as time expired in a road victory over Rivier. She followed up with a huge game-winning goal against Simmons late in the fourth quarter, giving the Pilgrims two huge conference victories on the week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Taylor Bailey, New England College (Sr. MF)

Senior Taylor Bailey led a New England College team defense that only allowed three goals on the week, going 2-0 in GNAC Play. Bailey led a backline that shut down one of the top scoring offenses in NCAA Division III in Simmons, which featured two of the top goal scorers in the conference. As a result, this happened for the first time this whole year in which Simmons did not score a single goal. 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Ashlee Blashock, Colby-Sawyer (Fr., GK)

First-Year Ashlee Blashock collected two shutout victories at home for the Chargers this past week, leading Colby-Sawyer to two conference wins. Blashock collected four saves in a shutout victory against Lasell and followed up with a five save shutout vs Dean. Blashock broke the program record for most shutouts in a single season as a result. She currently leads the conference in save percentage (.868), goals-against average (0.67), and shutouts (6).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Brooke Farquhar, Colby-Sawyer (Fr., F)

First-year Brooke Farquhar led the way offensively for the Chargers in a 2-0 week. She chipped in three assists for four Charger goals in a victory over Lasell and followed up with two goals and assists apiece in another victory over Dean. Farquhar currently leads the conference in assists with 10 and is third in the GNAC in goals (13) and points (36).


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Ella Welton, Albertus Magnus - Collected a shutout victory over Anna Maria with five saves. Had eight saves total on the week.

Sophia Brea, Johnson & Wales - Snagged two victories in goal for the Wildcats. Had three saves total.

Haley Budenas, Johnson & Wales - Led a JWU defense that held two top goal scorers in conference scoreless against Simmons.

Alice Rourke, Lasell - Collected two goals and an assist in a win over Regis.

Makenzie Anderson, New England College - Collected two victories, including a shutout victory over Simmons. Had eight saves on the week.

Chloe Sicard, Rivier - Collected two goals and a defensive save for the Raiders in a 1-1 week.

Zoe Schmaling, Simmons - Collected two goals in a tough double-overtime loss against Johnson & Wales.
